The rightsholders might be different in other regions.

For example studios cooperate on a movie and split up the distribution rights between Europe and the US. If Microsoft only gets one studio to agree with them, you won't see the title in another region.

Despite this, this is not about Gold user priviledges, since the service is open in the US to Silver, too.

That said, I really am annoyed about this, too, since I really wish the studios would make worldwide licenses easier. I would gladly pay for the English language content I have to torrent while here in Germany, since I cannot watch any dubbed content, yet cannot legally access or obtain English language downloads.

re: Video Marketplace Status

i live in ireland and im really angry with m.s. for only looking after the USA so come march its ps3 time and i loved m.s. before this!now you guys are worse than sony why dont you just stop selling 360 in every country but the USA and another thing why the hell should everywhere else pay the same amount for a gold account when the rest of the world does not get the same benifits?that is a very valid question that i really wont fucking answered!!!and every person i meet is going to know how gay M.S. is i mean even if they told us when they would be bringing it out in other countries it might rebuild alot of bridges because belive it or not this is a very very big deal to most because if they overlook us this time it sets the bar for what there going to do in the future!!!

re: Video Marketplace Status

I have seen things get significantly better over the launch day: standard definition movies downloaded smoothly last night and TV shows in HD with no problem.

Seems like the problems are fixed. But you would think that Microsoft would anticipate these problems with all of the employees they have testing their services. I didn't see any blogging or pre-release reports on the video service prior to release, so it looks like Microsoft didn't do a very broad test.

re: Video Marketplace Status

Why aren't movie downloads treated like other XBL downloads? When I am downloading a demo and I turn my system off and turn it back on it will automatically continue the download. I played other games for hours since I thought the movie was completed, but the movie didn't continue downloading till I told it to. In the end I finished the last 12% after 2 hours last night. Maybe I'll actualy have time to watch the movie tonight now that I only have 8 days left to watch.

re: Video Marketplace Status

"TOMCATS Said: "Well, I decided to give the service a try after the dust had settled. Today (Suday), I was able to download Clash of Titans in less than 4 min. The HD version! 5.2 GB..."

Hmmm... I have RR Premium with and can sustain 850 KB/s. To download 5.2GB in 4 min would require an average of 22,719 KB/s."

I think he is talking about progrsive download playback and if you have a fast enough downlaod speed Windows Media will "buffer" and playback a video before a download is compleated .

re: Video Marketplace Status

Keith B - try reading? It's 24 hours from when you start Playing the movie, not from downloading it.

You have two weeks to keep it until then.

And as for 'ON DEMAND', get faster 'net access? :)

As for pricing, i don't comprehend how an hour's drama could be the same price as a short cartoon. There needs to be another tier for price, half hour (max) shows should be half the price of hour long shows.

And there needs to be season deals, buy a season and get 25% off or something.. like buying MSPoints, cheaper in quantity.

Can't wait to see the new & improved version hitting the UK sometime soon ;)

re: Video Marketplace Status

@EmPerfectCror

A Robot Chicken episode took 50 minutes. The HD movie I started after that took almost 36 hours. But today I tried another Robot Chicken and it took under 10 minutes. MUCH, MUCH BETTER.

The pricing doesn't fly for me, though. For example a Robot Chicken episode costs 160 points, or $2.00. Downloading the first season to my suddenly small hard drive costs $40. A two-disk DVD set of that same season, plus bonus content, costs $17 on Amazon or $25 at the music store up the street.

Video Marketplace is a GREAT idea and I'm glad to see more of the 360's non-gaming potential being used. But once the novelty of downloading TV shows for twice the price of the DVD or renting HD movies for a buck more than Hollywood Video wears off, I doubt I'll be spending anymore points on this.

re: Video Marketplace Status

yah, i agree with Cayne.. i believe it was cayne.. didnt read the whole thread.. but heck, my download of posiden took 60+ hrs. that is WAY rediculous. I got on the phone with them and they refused to refund the points. It took longer to download than i am allowed to keep it... and yet the time limmit started from when I began the download.

24 hrs from play is absolute BS. should be at least 72. I think ill just be doing a netflix or BBV.

thanks for nothing MS.

im not here to flame either. I was thrilled with the quality of the movie.. i thought the service in theory would be great if it was an ON DEMAND type deal.. but the wait time was just not worth it.

I sincerely hope they get that worked out.

re: Video Marketplace Status

TOMCATS Said: "Well, I decided to give the service a try after the dust had settled. Today (Suday), I was able to download Clash of Titans in less than 4 min. The HD version! 5.2 GB..."
