place holder audio, I would assume the Quattro (home server) is blocked out for some dumb reasons. But it was a good CES keynote. 360 and Live Anywhere looking good for 07

Wow. What a bunch of boring corporate drivel. The applause sounded so forced at times, it wouldn't surprise me if there were blinking signs facing the audience.

The Zune is not a success ... who has one? I have seen one out and about, and no buzz about it what-so-ever. Not to mention the DRM concessions MS took assuming we are all pirates are bad for us all. Hope that is not a sign of how 360 IPTV will be locked down.

Recipes in my kitchen? Windows Live vs. XBL (cool) ... but ... Uno? I do like the idea of the HP box running Windows Media Server (or whatever it was called). Otherwise .... yawn.

This is going to be quite negative so let me preface it by saying I love my 360 (despite it being in for repair for the second time as I type this), and I love what MS has brought to the table in the gaming community. BUT

I listened to the MS Keynote this morning and the first 30 minutes is almost verbatim what Steve Jobs told us four years ago. It was a joke. Way to make Vista current to 2002 Bill. A few of the highlights:

- Connectivity in the digital decade. Using the PC as the centerpiece to the digital lifestyle, ie digital cameras, mp3 players, recording tv...etc... welcome to Macworld 2002 when Steve Jobs brought us the "Digital Hub"

- 64-bit processing? Hello 2003. Mr. Gates meet the G5.

- Searching in Vista for any file, webpage, program or such with a few clicks... erm... hello Apple Spotlight, circa 2005 or more recent Google Search

- Reverting files to previous save states, umm yeah, you guessed it, Apple again

- MS Live Earth? Ever heard of Google Earth + Mapquest?

- Photo Gallery software where you can burn DVDs of your favorite photos and tweak them? How about iPhoto : 2003

- The Xbox is expanding the market? Come on, I love my 360(when it works)as much as the next guy but lets be realistic, they are selling to gamers, more specifically Sony gamers and previous Xbox owners. That is hardly expanding the market. Maybe Bill had Nintendo on the brain from playing his DS backstage before his keynote.

It was a joke. I wonder what other regurgitated features Vista will be providing us and calling it cutting edge?

I severely doubt that you need a new version of the Xbox to use the IPTV feature. Microsoft has already shown how flexible the system is, I don't see why a television option couldn't be added to the media blade.

As for a new system with HDMI, who's to say that they can't just put out an HDMI adapter? Sure, some people argue that the port on the back is analog, but what they fail to mention is that there are unused pins (not to mention that optical audio is digital and it comes out of that back port). Expect a moderately priced adapter at some point in the near future.

Feedback is useless against these types. Thats why there is a report function just underneath that ;) Feedback (to the user) Report to MS. See the difference?

I'm still waiting on an update on when MS is going to fix their wireless headset issue. Contacting Xbox support is joke.

Xbox version 2 sounds cool and all, but if the rumor is true that you have to buy a whole new system just to obtain these new features, that's very stupid and screws the 14 million who have already bought a console. Looks like version 2 wont be very popular..lol.

Major - Will the IPTV functionality only be available on new hardware or will it be available on all current Xboxs via Dashboard Update? I read a review that stated it would only be available on new boxes.

As I'm in the computer distribution channel I can tell you that major retailers have to report sales out as well. So yes, they can get detailed reports on what is sold IN to retail as well as what is sold out.

IPTV on 360 looks awesome. Living in Canada, I'm assuming this will take years to come here...
