re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

That's right. I did compare a demo to an XBLA title. Is it a fair comparison? Probably not.

But the bottom line is what I'm looking at. And the bottom line is how I choose to spend my time. I'll reiterate the fact that I would rather sit down, turn on my HDTV, put my feet up, and play a game that was crafted well and will provide a challenging and engrossing game play, as opposed to some yuppy XBLA title. Defend the service all you want, but I'm only venting cause I have a stake in the gold service, because I am a member. It's not the comparison I made that was absurd, it's the fact that such a comparison was possible, that it was absurd. I think you missed my tactful point there, Vego.

Again, the bottom line is how I choose to spend my time, with my own entertainment choices. Console wars, yada yada, exclusive titles, he's got this, this system has that, etc. None of that *** doesn't matter to me. All that matters are the games that I have access to. And what I'm saying, for the third time is, XBLA gives me access to a pile of trash.

So with that, are you now telling me that I don't have a say in my own service? Are you telling me how I choose my time is not up to me anymore? Or that Halo 3 is going to be such a great game, that I am wrong for not vouching for it as you so vehemently do? I don't think that's the case. I've been fragging people on Halo ONE before the game really took off. And I've been doing the same on Halo 2, Gears, LP, etc. Still though, one thing has nothing to do with another. We're all entitled to choose our own games bud. I don't tell you what's good for you, and I don't tell anyone what's good for them either. All I'm saying is that I've been happy with my 360 so far, but it's really starting to wane. I've got nothing to play as of late. This looks like a drought, it feels like a drought, then by fucking golly I'll call it a drought.

"You can believe in stones, brotha, as long as you don't throw stones at me."

re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

Major Nelson, would you please write a post one day explaining Microsoft's policy of excluding South Korea (and often, Japan) from so many Marketplace games, demos, and items? I've heard that in some cases publishers restrict release geographically and in other cases country game ratings boards prohibit release (like in South Korea and Germany), but Rootbeer Tapper's content is inoffensive and Midway has released Live Arcade titles in Korea before. So what gives?

(and yes, I know about the workaround, but I would really just like to know MS's reason for promoting geographic exclusivity against its paying customers who happen to live outside North America)

re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

Root beer :P

“I'm starting to save up for a PS3. Heck, why not. At least they have better downloadable games.”

How’d you work that one out? What games do they have until Calling all Cars? Not to mention their releases are even less frequent than lives.

“Even the demos on the PS3 are better than these cheap, cheap arcade scraps. I'd rather play Gran Turismo HD than any recent XBLA, anyday. And where's the playable demo of Forza 2?? My guess is that it'll be released like 2 weeks before the actual game ships. Heinous.”

That doesn’t even make sense, first you compare the Live Arcade games to demo, and if Live’s been getting a lot of something lately it’s demo’s. Beyond that GT:HD isn’t even a demo, it’s a failed game and chances are PS3 owners will be paying loads for extra cars/tracks in future. You could of just sounded a little more intelligent by stating “I'd rather play Gran Turismo HD than any recent XBLA” though you’d need to have games on the end, because that’s the fair comparison. GT:HD is a far superior product in comparison to the latest Live Arcade titles, especially given it’s free but you can’t compare this to a Froza 2 demo given that GT:HD is never going to be released in any other form.

“Sure, the 360 is doing well overall. But for me personally, it's starting to go downhill. This drought of quality games is ridiculous. The system is in it's second year of life; and there is only one real hit title for it. I think that's absurd. The entire world doesn't wait on Halo 3. You need more variety, more games, now.”

You obviously having been paying much attention to the competition… Game drought? The 360 have Crackdown and GRAW2 coming up, the other too have nothing until Motorstorm in March and then they’re back to their droughts again. Only one hit title? Could of fooled me, it might only have one triple A titles but it’s seriously rare for a console to have one of those in it’s first year (Don’t say LoZ:TP it’s just a port). Care to name another exclusive title coming out this year more prominent than halo? (Pokemon doesn’t count!) Oh wait, you can’t because it’s the most significant exclusive console title out there. So I guess people will wait, and they’ll have possible AAA titles like Mass Effect, Too Human, even Froza 2 and possibly Blue Dragon whilst they do. So to put it short I think you’ll find the 360 doesn’t need either of those things, you just need to open your eyes.

re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

I'm starting to save up for a PS3. Heck, why not. At least they have better downloadable games.

Root Beer Tapper? This is utter trash. Not worth a dime, in my book. It's 2007. You have a high end gaming machine. The world watches on your XBLA weekly releases. And what do you roll out? Some single, early 80's retro trash. I feel like I'm getting hit in the head with a stupid stick every wednesday.

I'm tired of asking for real games. I'm thoroughly convinced that Microsoft isn't a bonafide game company.

You guys don't know your roots. Or your gamers.

Even the demos on the PS3 are better than these cheap, cheap arcade scraps. I'd rather play Gran Turismo HD than any recent XBLA, anyday. And where's the playable demo of Forza 2?? My guess is that it'll be released like 2 weeks before the actual game ships. Heinous.

Like I said before, get it together, or gtfo.

re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

How many of you are gonna whinge when Worms comes out? They’re still releasing titles that have been released more than twice for a more expensive cost. Legality truly isn’t a moot point given the fact that people still do it, and as for arcade emulation with online play, can the Wii do that?

It’s depending on the game, a lot of titles have quite large graphical updates some not so, but that would be up to the developer above MS. Sure, I feel there should be stricter rules but it’s still a feature Nintendo doesn’t offer, on top of leaderboards (as insignificant as you deem them, I’m sure quite a few people see them as important. Not to mention there’s no reason they shouldn’t be included) and online play (Which is a massive plus, not to mention I’ve had no issues with it so far).

On top of this you totally ignored a major point of mine. The reason MS have so few titles is because it takes their publishers time to improve the games, thus they need to spread releases thinner as there’s only a certain amount released each year. So that’s one title a week, but out of a pool of around 50 titles each year. Nintendo however could release their entire back catalogue in no time at all, yet choose only to release 3-4 or so a week, very rarely offering more than one that people actually want.

Though all that aside, the simple fact is you’re comparing different services no matter how much you want to deny it. Nintendo put no effort into upgrading their titles, MS do and it costs time no matter how deluded you are that it doesn’t.

re: Arcade: Root Beer Tapper

Heres an idea....fire this cannessa guy and hire me.
