Yea, there is some compression going on when I upload them to Flickr. Maybe I'll upload a BMP file to my server this weekend if I have time.

The quality in your Flickr stream doesn't seem to be perfect though. Is this due to JPG compression?

their are video cards that do hardware HD exceleration now.. the new Radeons starting at the X1300 and I'm sure some of the newer Nvidia cards

You can. Via either http://www.runtime360.com (for MCE/Vista HP/U useres) or http://www.tversity.com. It streams content to the 360 and 'encodes' on-the-fly. But for HD content, it'd probably be best to do it via Ethernet cable.

Does the 360 output the same HD signal through both the HDMI and component connections? So, what I'm asking, is could you connect one to the card and the other to your TV so you could play on your tv while capturing on the card.?

Hey

I would be great if you could get the xbox 360 to support the MPEG transport stream (TS, TP, or MPEG-TS) video file format that my Dvico High Def TV Tuner card (www.dvico.com) uses to record tv programs. I would love if i could just record a show using it, then watch it using my xbox 360 on the big screen.

I use adaptec gamebridge with s-video out to play games on my PC monitor. No lag and you can capture from your PS2/videocam. No high def capture. fun though. The device is USB and very tiny. ebay is the best place to get one, way cheaper than retail price.

Remember - it's not so much the CPU power of your PC that is the limiting factor when working with HD, and it's not total drive capacity either.

It's the read/write speed that's the bottleneck - for uncompressed 1920x1080 you need to have hard disks that can support over 200MB a second read/write. If you don't have a RAID you're going to struggle to keep up.

Take a look at the card I have. It's called the MyHD-130. It does the encoding on the card so it doesn't take much resources from your computer. You can have a pretty low PC and run this card fine.

Major, y'know what I would really love the Xbox team to implement? An upload screenshot option (just like in Forza) as an option on the 360 blade so it's available in any game at any time. I'm sure there would be licensing reasons to prohibit this but the forza feature is so popular and everyone loves showing off screens of their progress to friends. Say 10mb server space each gamertag.

Heavy price, but likely worth the money.

When you say "extremly high PC" I have to wonder where that benchmark starts. Does this mean a Core 2 with a certain minimum of Ghz (I have a 2.4)? Does your GPU have anything to do with it or does the capture card handle ALL of the video processing? Does the software allow you to adjust the resolution, therefore permitting you to use less hdd space? Does the card capture audio as well as video? If so, what audio inputs does it have?

What are the specs for the system you are running this on?

With the ability to add in extra stuff into the guide (ala halo3) i think it'd be a boon if the guide/games supported a method of taking screenshots, and then mailing them out to a set mail address/feed, and save to hard drive for sending to people in messages.

Like hold down the guide button & hit 'back' or something. Would be great for capturing cool moments in replays or character stats, or guides, secrets, reviews etc.

Couple of things i think i'd like to see are:

* live messaging media p2p share (DRM'd content to be deleted 3 days/3plays style)

* Friend's recommendations - get 'ratings' feedback on all marketplace content. Cross reference it with friend's list to give you a 'star' rating on MP downloads you may be interested in judging by what your friend's like. (extra option in play/delete on arcade or trailers/films - Rate, feedback systems there for people, reuse for mp items?)

* Shell(guide)-supported screenshot capturing/video capturing. Quality settings & gameplay affecting disclaimers included.

Just how much more solid will the community be with a closed system sharing service & 'OMG look what i did!' ability?

That's one of the best things about PC gaming that's only starting to happen in consoles with Halo3's (and, by god, it better happen with UT3 too) demo playback, or Burnout's replay upload ability.

NB - i think that there should be some zero-value achievements added to the guide too - like "has messaged on live, has video chatted, has screen grabbed, has splitscreened" just to fill up the damn void in the achievements space when people are on the dashboard...

Major Nelson check out Justin.tv there are a bunch of people waiting live for the iPhone. Imagine if Xbox fans adapt this and we see people waiting in line for Halo 3, I pretty much guaruntee all of you I will be covering the Halo 3 launch line live on the internet for everyone when it comes out later this year. Major you should do a life cast.
