Guh, what's the point? Even though Sony corners the market on BS system skus, at least MS proves it can screw around too. You guys should really make the HDDs standard. What's with the HDD prices being so ridiculously priced?

Still wished the price would have been $249.99. I don't think anyone would have minded the price drop on the Core to Wii levels. But the XBox 360 does have a clear value over the Wii with Hi Def capabilities and five FULL real "games". Wii Sports ar4e games but sometimes when playing it it feels like more of demnos than full games. ANyhow, here's hoping the price drop's by $20 to $249.99 sometime soon(likely will happen at Wal-Mart first) so there can be a clear differece between the Core/Arcade and the Pro(ie that $100 hard drive upgrade). http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/playmorepayless/default.htm?WT.svl=nav

Why did they make a 256MB stick when they already had the 512? That's stupid IMO. You need all the space you can get. HDD still would have been nice, but come on, give them the 512MB stick so you don't have to manufacture a new size.

Other than that, it seems cool for the Wii crowd. Game Theory podcast made good point that if Wiis still aren't available, this SKU maybe a good alternative for people during the holidays.

No HDD is still a mistake!!! It needs to be standard or devs will always feel they have to hold back on their games! This is still the biggest mistake MS made with the system. Well, maybe the failing system rate wins that one, but I digress.

You can tell on certain games too, like Halo 3. During MatchMaking, you can tell when someone doesn't have the harddrive because it takes forever to load the level, even though everyone with the HDD already has the level cached and loaded, so everyone suffers (maybe I'm overplaying loading times, but hey, think about the total time in your life you waste watching loading screens!)!!!

IR1SH SN1PER: I think the layout was designed for monitors and resolutions of 1280x and up. Looks great on my 1600x1200 TFT but I can see that 1024x768 would be nearly useless.

As for the Arcade SKU. I think it's a great move (despite the hdd-less version being the wrong move to begin with). You get a next-gen gaming machine that plays gears, halo 3, cod4 etc for the price of a Wii (an overclocked 50 buck Gamecube).

Sony will have an impossible time trying to match the lowest pricepoint that MS can muster. It's the same mistake MS made with the xbox1. Having a hdd included when youre selling at 150 bucks or lower really starts to kick you in the nuts. Its even worse now that the dollar is so weak.

But they didnt think to throw it in the box free with the elite, they make you post a letter to them to only wait and wait and not get the cable which was a smart move from microsoft to make all the people who had jus bought elites go out and buy the ripoff memory unit. The 64mb memory unit is a joke, price and memory, and the 512mb is ok space but jus totally overpriced. Yet all i wanted to do was keep my profile and my same gamertag that i have always been known by (ok could of retrieved my gamertag on new console) but most importantly i wanted all my game saves whci you cant retrieve back through live, so you are basically forced to buy the memory unit. Oh and still waiting for video downloads in the uk, i mean films and stuff especially HD films. I dont need to buy the HD DVD drive, i can just download HD Films in the WMV format then jus stream them from my PC to 360. But would be nice to be able to jus download them straight of live.

I think microsoft was very clever how they choose to not include the HD DVD drive built in to the console as that would of pushed up the price for people who dont even really watch DVD's like myself. I also really liked the fact that you could buy the console without a hard drive (core) to get the price down further so at a later date you could buy the hard drive, But on that note i really hated the fact that microsoft have really really overpriced the memory units. I had to buy one of them bloody overpriced things. I sold my 2 month old premium for very cheap to a friend to get the elite console, because i wanted the bigger hard drive and before people say why do that, you should of jus bought the 120gb hard drive for your premium? No because it was £10 cheaper for me to jus buy the elite console and then i had a brand new console, 120gb which i wanted in the first place, brand new headset etc. and i also got a brand new copy of GRAW 2 thrown in as part of the console deal and i know had HDMI output on my console even though i dont use it as i think VGA is alot better (on my setup anyway). But i dont really see anypoint in this new arcade console??? Ok theres a couple of arcade games thrown in etc. but really them arcade games are fun but no where near as fun as proper full 360 games, halo 3, rainbow six etc. All thats gonna happen is people are gonna buy the premium console that comes bundled with a free couple of proper 360 games for cheaper (shops near me a doing great deals on premiums trying to make way for the new premium) than the new arcade console which comes with a few arcade games yet costs more.

The memory problems will never be solved if Microsoft continues to sell consoles without HDD like Core or now Arcade.

This package is 100x better than the Core. The Core was designed to rip off consumers who jump for the lowest price and then go home and figure out that it was barely even a functioning system. Sony catches a lot of flack for their 40GB but at least the package is fully functional unlike the Core. The fact that MS would even bring out such a package as the Core is so underhanded that I will always remember this dark period in Xbox's history.
