Well for one, I would say some people don't like their kids using their (the parents) gamertag for content restriction reasons.

The other issue for those who really don't mind, is that if Xbox Live goes down, it doesn't matter what gamertag they try to use...if it can't connect, you can't play.

People are looking for more than 'we're aware of it and working on it'. They are asking for more information. And if they can't fix the issue they can (and sometimes do) transfer the data to the new console. If they had a fast easy way to do this, the problem would be gone. It just takes way too much time on the phone (explaining your situation multiple times) to get a fix. And that is only if they decide to offer you the fix.

"I dont understand...if this DRM thing has been around so long why are people complaining about it now?"

Fair enough question. The simple matter is that a lot of people didn't know about it. While most people on Live stay connected, they don't realize that their downloads are hosed until something happens, like they take their system to a friend's house, or their internet goes out. Many people still don't realize that they are affected by this.

To test this out, simply unplug your internet and try to play your arcade games. If they just come up as trials, you know you're hosed. I didn't realize this was the case until about a half of a year into the life of the system and have been trying to get results ever since.

I would suggest that everyone who has had their system replaced or even fixed unplug their internet and check to see if their downloads work correctly or not.

Believe me, this isn't just something that people 'jump on the bandwagon' about. This is a very real and very serious problem.

We, as gamers, take our hobby very seriously and spend thousands upon thousands on our equipment (tv, stereo, systems, games, and... downloaded content)... Basically, having your downloaded content not work is like buying a great big TV and then having it break down and when you get it back it will only work fully if connected to the internet, otherwise, you could only have basic cable on it with commercial channels for the ones you already paid to get (sory, no HBO for you, only previews)... wouldn't that make you a little upset?

It's not like those of us who continually moan and complain about this are just out on some vendetta. We have a legitimate concern and it's one that needs to be addressed for us to continue to have faith in the system we love. It's as simple as that. Expressing those concerns here is just one avenue that is available to us, and we're using it. Granted, some people don't use it wisely, but they are just venting their frustrations, please forgive them and try to understand our frustration.

When you're not afflicted by this problem, it seems trivial at best. Once it happens to you, you feel violated. What is yours is no longer yours. What is meant to be enjoyed can no longer be enjoyed the way it was implied.

All we're asking for is an easy fix (much like the PS3 has). The fix is ultra simple, and is in the process of being implimented (transfering the license to a different machine... wow, two years to think of that?), but the big issue is trying to get that done.

I can somewhat understand when someone buys a new system and then wants the licenses transfered, because there was no fault on either side. Should MS allow the transfer? Heck yes. If they would, I would get a newer system with the HDMI port.

But the big issue is people like myself and many others who have had to send their systems in, only to get them replaced with a new one (which I do appreciate) but then find out that all our downloaded materials are hosed.

All we're asking is for this to be addressed and fixed. It is very simple.

As for not taking up this space, where else should we go? The forums have a VERY lengthy posting about this very issue (MS's way of rounding up all the complaints in one area so it's that much easier to ignore?). There's no emails to execs or anything that are readily available so we can send them our frustrations, and 18004myxbox simply stinks. They are farmed out call centers that have no clue what we're talking about.

Mr. Nelson is the only "human" type person that MS has that actually allows us to vent our frustrations. I know that he alone can not fix all our problems, but he is an inside source. Our frustrations need to be known, and thankfully there is this site in which we can vent those frustrations.

I love my 360, and continue to enjoy it more than my PS3 or my Wii, but this one aspect is the ONLY thing holding it back. I've spent thousands (73 actual titles, 91 arcade titles, movies, television shows, gamer pics, downloaded game content... you get the point) on my system, it's an investment to me. When my investment is not working for me the way it should, I'm gonna complain.

Thank you Major for allowing us to continue to vent our frustrations. They are not directed at you, but you do represent the company at which our complaints are aimed. We do appreciate you taking the time to help as much as you can.

I have BOTH CONSOLES! and i want to get my licenses for arcade games moved from one to the other. If i connected both to live at the same time and then rung up costumer services to allow them to change the license agreement from one to the other could they do it?

I bet this question gets no response? I've asked and asked for help and got nothing of major/xbox.com/customer services EVERYONE! this is why i want them to change the policy.
SIMPLE LITTLE BIT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE ISN'T it? Not for MS it is.

the obvious solution is to alow migration of either drm to new serial number...or serial number to new equipment. if software starts swapping serial numbers that'll cause all sorts of piracy issues. your console may even be flagged as modded and banned outright from live. shifting a drm to another serial number would need to be done through microsoft themselves on a personal game by game user by user basis and the nextBox will have released by then (5 year cycle that we're 2 and a bit into, the ps3 will be superceded before half of it's games actually make it too market)

the ONLY way this will get better is when the next console update happens so you guys may as well leave major's blog alone as that's 5 months away at the earliest, and 11 months away if they still don't know how to fix it then.

nintendo's actual nex gen system will ship in a years time (not announced but think about it and it's pretty obvious...they'd have the most powerful hardware well before anyone can mount any resistence to it)

To do this, you would need to have the console hooked up and connected to Live, so that the existing content on your box would first have its console keys revoked, and then you go to another 360, go to the same control panel, and say "I want my content tied to this 360."

When the console update happens which includes this feature, all content console keys are immediately revoked, basically forcing everyone to declare which console is their primary. If a console is not hooked up to Live, then no big deal, you have at most *one* extra copy of the game in the wild.

The clincher is that you have to be connected to Live when you request the revocation. That way the network can say "Alright, I've confirmed that you don't have these console keys anymore." Recovering your GamerTag has not, and won't ever, affect this process. It lets *you* play on the console just as it would've if you had your GamerTag on a memory card, but that's it.

If the console that the keys were revoked from ever shows up on Live with active keys, quietly kill those keys. Don't ban it from getting new keys, because then you're removing a potential paying customer from the network. The console itself is still intact, after all.

There. Now I can type that again the next time some *** comes along that claims "UR NOT DOING IT RITE".

What do you mean "release blog"?

This blog is NOT about marketplace releases, it just happens to contain a lot of them. Major Nelson has specifically said that he never intended it to be JUST a marketplace release list. So who are you to tell us we shouldn't be giving feedback here?

We do not NEED to suggest a fix. Its a no-brainer how to fix the DRM by allowing us to assign the licence to a specific console of OUR choice, but make it a little more complicated than that. Obviously the current problem is that if it auto-assigned to the last console you signed in on then you could sign in on a friends console, download your XBLA games and then as long as nobody went on live on that console you could simply sign back in on your own console and license would then be working on BOTH consoles. So there probably needs to be some sort of limit such as you have to sign in to live once a month or (and this one is kinda what Microsoft seem to be aiming for) what I think would work from both sides - you can only transfer the license by permission from customer support but, once they give you permission it transfers IMMEDIATELY.
