I would like to make this clear first..

The xbox 360 is purely built for gaming purposes and highbdefinition movie downloads and connectivity to windows media center.. there is no need for the xbox 360 to have a bluray player nor the next xbox comming out in 2012 or sooner to have a bluray intergrated if you want to see bluray movies then i would strongly recomend to get a stand alone bluray player ITS STRICKLY A GAMING CONSOLE FOR PETE'S SAKE'S.. HENCE THE REASON WHY THEY PUT OUT A STAND ALONE HD DVD FOR IT. Oh and not to mention the 360 has the best controller on the market awsome button lay out as well as the shoulder buttons and the triggers the analog sticks are way to comfortable and the controller was built in a way so you dont get blisters nor feel it while your playing your games and you truly get the feel for the game's with the rumble feeback.

Playstation 3 has come out with bluray capability thats the only way the could come out and put up a challenge in the market. not to mention what is a gamer supposed to do when the dvd bluray drive goes out on them and they are stuck without the actuall console it self for a month? as for the controller I think they could have done better in designin a new one apart from the "dualshock the third" buttons are iffy and break on you easily the analog sticks get really sticky and stop working after a month of gaming on it. the games still have the jaggies on it.. I mean u pay 700 bucks for a machine thats hihgly advance and u still get strechmarks in your games thats pretty sad and it has bluray? Oh and what are you going to do when the battery is shot in your ps3 ur gonna have to spend about another 50 bucks for a whole new controller as for the 360 u just go out and buy a new battery pack for 10 bucks.

ALL IM SAYING IS IF YOU WANNA GO FOR SERIOUS GAMING AND GREAT ONLINE PLAY AND YOU HAVE A BIG PARTY TO HOST OR HAVE FAMILY OVER AND WANT 2 SHARE REAL DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT YOU GO FOR THE 360. IF YOU WANNA GO FOR A BLURAY DVD PLAYER WITH HALF ASSED ONLINE PLAY U GO FOR THE PS3. or just go out and buy a stand alone bluray dvd player.

this is truly sad that the gamers only see the dvd side of things in console now a days what happend to the serious gamers that play pure games with great online play? it just seems that its not a console war anymore its a dvd war..

re: HD DVD Update

Microsoft should be focusing their efforts on bridging the PS3 gap by releasing a Blu-ray player, not by updating a doorstop.

HD movies aren't really that big a deal unless you are a movie buff or graphic whore, of which neither I am. Hearing blu-ray won was no surprise because the end of blu-ray would me the death of PS3 and of Sony Entertainment who also deals with all the movies especially the ones that go onto discs. HD-DVD seemed like a better idea only because one disc would have two formats, HD-DVD and DVD, and so it could basically play in all movie players (including blu-ray although only as a DVD). Well whatever, cuz I play games more than I watch basic TV, so this sure doesn't affect me.

I for one still use the HD-DVD add-on on a daily basis, both for watching regular DVDs and for watching my ever-growing collection of HD-DVDs.
"Can I have an update to play WMVHD DVD's as well? Also I still would like a repeat button for video on my portable hard drive."

Clearly only used for porn clips. ;)

SECOND:

To everyone who keeps asking if there's an update to make it into bluray, I sincerely hope EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU was kidding... because there's no download that can change A LASER!!

THIRD:

Scazza, 1080p over component was discussed in a recent podcast - it's no Microsoft's choice, they're simply NOT ALLOWED to do this because of MPAA standards (not HD-DVD or BluRay or anything, MPAA in general).

FOURTH:

Anon #98, AMEN.

FIFTH:

For my multi-platform counterparts, Amazon is doing B2G1 on BluRay movies:
