These stats go by how many differnt people play the game. Lets say Halo 3 has 400,000 same people playing for the entire day. Now lets say COD4 has 100,000 people playing but every hour 100,000 new people sign on and the 100,000 previous people sign off. Meaning the 100,000 playing might be different people 5 hours later. Now these stats clearly show Halo 3 had more people playing at once, but COD4 has more people over a period of time.

that still doesnt make sense because how does major nelsons list know which game really has more people playing multiplayer then? also halo 3 still has more players than cod 4 for multiplayer thats what the number says.....how do we actually know then how many people are actually playing cod 4 or halo 3 online?

I agree Alex Atkin UK, CoD gets more hours, while GTA gets more users. I'd love to see a Chart for hours.

can someone please explain to me why cod 4 is above halo 3 in the rankings when the numbers clearly show halo 3 has more players online?

GTA IV is still king and that will not change anytime soon. I give it another five or six weeks on top, the single-player is simply stunning. Multi-player lacks a bit, free mode would be a lot better with clubs and such open. Free mode is usually just a run and gun unless you play with the right people. You should also be able to make money in free mode.

im confused...when i check the online numbers for halo 3 their higher than when i check them on cod 4 so why does it say cod 4 is number 1? Usually cod 4 has around 220k during peak hours and halo 3 has around 330k?

GTA 4 is a good game and will prob stay at the top until GOW2 come out in Nov. I like the single player better than the mulitplayer. I prefer COD4, HALO3, FORZA2, RSV2 for my mulitplayer experience. I wonder if Boston2k will release a DLC for Bioshock anytime soon? Bioshock to me still has the best single player experience on the console to date. JMO.

I assume there's a rule that Major can't post the numbers with the games, but I think that would be interesting to know how close the numbers are on these. Maybe instead of the exact numbers, just have the difference between them.

On a slightly unrelated note, it's good to see people finally working out what makes a good match in GTA4 online. As in, a small area with other tweaks, instead of the stupid game I was in where it was every island and practically zero vehicles. Whoop-de-doo, not fun in the slightest. Oh, and there's still too many idiots who think Free Mode basically consists of "Let's shoot every other player constantly" instead of "Let's do funny things we set up", with the latter category being reserved for playing with friends.

Anyway, prediction from me - UK release of Rock Band sees it rise up to third or fourth... Won't be enough to topple the more mainstream stuff, but there will still be a surge in popularity. I know I'm buying it, although it'll be just the game for now.
