FREAKIN' Awesomo!,

anyone that doesn't think the DRM change is a revolution in standing up & doing what the consumer wants to do with purchased content. from nextgen.biz, appears it took this long because they wanted the same DRM for XBLA games as they want to have with purchased movies & shows (restructured licensing).

i've been posting about this for 2 years at xbox.com including this one:

I wish you all would stop crying about no spring update. Big deal, who cares anyways. There are more important things to address instead of cool gadgets on the dashboard.

least you got movies to download, us aussies havent even got that yet.

and missed out on a feature also in the last update.. still waiting..

they seem to be spending alot of time working on stuff they should be doing all the time anyways. what i dont get is ..how come they dont have 2 teams working on different things..in the same department? seems logical to me. it is m$ after all

The fact is, Microsoft SEEMED to try harder before they had competition, choosing to innovate (for this gen at least) rather than immitate, unlike NOW where they chose to Immitate. BEFORE COMPETITION: Xbox Live (at £40 per year) Download Content on ALOT of games (Curse you EA for abusing this) We had regular Back Compat updates Xbox Live Cam Downloadable Demos (as seen on PC) Movie Marketplace (US Only) Xbox Live Arcade Themes and Gamerpics MS Points (Great for those whom cant get a credit card) Achievements (Great Drug Free addiction that makes you buy Shite games) Regular Free software/firmware Updates HD Gaming Movie/Music/Picture streaming from PC/USB Storage device Etc etc DURING COMPETITION: Little or NO BC Updates (Still want to play hunter on MM3 again :() MSN Added to Dash (despite already available in Media Center from launch) 120gb HDD (to keep in line with the PS3 upgradable HDD) RUMOURED Motion Controller (as seen on Wii and PS3) Xvid playback (for those naughty folk who download movies/series - also available on PS3 and PC) HDMI Ports (again as on PS3) Granted we still get alot of the stuff from Before MS had competition, but I was stating things they CAME OUT WITH during said times, and I was only comparing THIS gen gaming. I'm sure that some of you can/WILL find fault at this list, but its all I can think of at the moment. Feel free to add of remove any applicable.

What happened to back compatibility updates. I would like to play my BIA games, Riddick, Time Splitters, Beyond Good and Evil, and the rest of the Conflict games. Will there be an update ever again? These kind of tight lipped tactics just peeve me off and make me wanna not support Microsoft altogether. If there isn't going to be another update, just say so, then many of us could clean out our game cupboards. I understand the hush-hush surrounding dashboard updates and overall system tweaks, but why the same attitude towards back compatibility? I don't get it. And don't tell me to be patient; a steady stream of back comp. updates rolled out every few months for almost two years, now I look at my watch and it's way, way past due. Even if the big M is taking a break from back comp. for a little bit, I would still like to know so that I don't continue telling my friends "any day now, any day now..." If the back comp. updates are done, then someone really ought to change the FAQ regarding them.

In 2003, Robbie Back and J Allard spoke about how scalable Xbox Live was, and how the infrastructure could cope with increasing demand. Obviously, they didn't expect 5m people online at once. More to the point, because Microsoft doesn't release gold/silver numbers, we don't know how many of these users are paying for the service, and who isn't.

If I'm paying $80 (£39.99) a year, why in gods name does my dashboard take 30 seconds to initiate because f your feeds and rich media adverts. Hold on, I'm displaying rich media adverts, which Microsoft are selling on a per territory basis to advertise 1st and 3rd party software and hardware. To quote Robin Burrowes of Microsoft UK at an event last year: "You'll see a lot more of these in future".

So, to recap, My PS3 loads instantly. Sure, the online service is nowhere near as good as Xbox Live, but I actually get more features with video/audio on my PS3. In fact, the XMB is better. I love the dashboard, but it's getting old. We need something fresh, because as much as your tailor made for families and children design team thought it would make the difference, it hasn't.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 360, and I play most of my games on it - my console of choice. As a former games journalist, I'm appalled that Microsoft is not releasing a spring update and instead focusing on an area that according to Robbie Bach and J Allard, would never be an issue. Hey, maybe it's just making sure all its rich media adverts can be served to those paying subscribers? My Xbox Live subscription runs out on June 6th. I won't be renewing until Microsoft pulls its collective finger out of its ass and starts investing in its services again. We already know you have the best server side technology. I don't need a European inside Xbox editor (nothing against Dan, he's a great chap.)

What I want is software and services, not a back-end to server rich media ads and make the dashboard load 2 seconds faster - and still be 3 times as slow as a PS3.

Major, I know it isn't you, and I know you're probably not going to get this far in the list of comments, but for the sake of the community, I really hope you do, because you're in danger of loosing its trust.

Im so pissed i want a spring update!!!!!!!!!! if you have broadband generally speaking you are playing online so the drm is an issue but it is not as importnat as it is made out to be! anywayif your internet is down play a box game its only gonna be down for what 1 hour - 2 hours max so its not the end of the world. drm is an issue but by microsoft using it as a reason why they arent doing a dash update is a joke. As a paying customer of xbox live gold i want to know where my money is going if they arent able to keep updating the dash etc. then it seems a bit pointless to be spending money even though i would never stop. Its good the drm is getting fixed however it is something that sould have been fixed 2 yrs ago at leats and should never have even exsited!!!!!!!!! MS IT DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR NO DASH UPDATE. I never turn my ps3 on but when i do to wtahc a movie it is always great to see how much has been aded and how psn etc keeps getting stuff aded every month. if there is no update till fall then by then the xmb over games will be out (hopefully) and a large advantage that xbox live had over psn will be lost and the cost of live will be even more questionable then!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Why start a schedule of Spring/Fall updates if you won't stick to them? People will lose interest pretty quickly and begin to distrust whatever is promised next.

i hope MS looked at the rumored list of features that came out on kotaku and went "oh! this is what they want?! let's scrap the spring update and release the fall one with all of these features!!" that would be great!
