This is one of the best games of this year.

I didn't buy that at the time because the price felt wrong, and now I'm no longer interested in it as there are better titles worth my time. The same thing's gonna happen again with Braid.

Come to think of it, when I was chatting with an American friend on this subject, they told me there had been a Pick Up And Play on Cloning Clyde, talking about how we should play it and it's "only" 800 points.

Maybe more people would play it if you whacked it on Arcade Hits for 400, I hope it doesn't take Braid this long for the price to be cut down to size.

Or maybe you could hold short sales on Arcade Games again? Another, Scottish, friend of mine noted that there was a half price deal on Steam, reducing Penny Arcade to $10 USD. Not doing the same sale thing ever on Xbox Live is bang out of order. What sale have we had? 100 points of Frogger once? Points already cost more in other regions anyway.

Pay say £40 a year and you can play any of the arcade games, but once your sub runs out you can't play them anymore!

I think the reason most of us will not pay more then 800pts for an arcade game, is cos we all play them for a week and then never play them again so most are a waste of money. A subcription system would be good for everyone, Microsoft get the money and we get to play the games!

I don't feel Braid is worth $15, that being said, I think it is worth playing beyond the demo. If this was a store bought game I would tell my friends to rent it and if they really liked it, pick it up at that point. It's not worth a purchase, but more than playing a quick demo...

Sure would be nice to be able to 'rent' games on the Marketplace, especially with these larger/more expensive games coming up. Maybe I just want to rent a multiplayer game for a weekend while I'm at my buddies place without making the full purchase. You could even make it so people have to be online to play.

Just saying, THAT would be worth 1600 for sure.

1200 for a puzzle game? Eh... I probobly will get it but I don't think most will.

re: Arcade: Braid

The people who say "800 points max for an XBLA game" make me sigh. Look objectively at the vast majority of games coming out on the platform. Most of them reek of rushed, unpolished, UNLOVED attempts to milk the marketplace for some cash for some throwaway entertainment.

By far and large, I wouldn't even pay 800 points for most of the games that are out there now.

Now when something like Braid comes along and, to use a Penny Arcade quote, actually matters, people are scoffing at the price. You can't compare Braid (and it's price) to a game like, say, Street Trace NYC or TiQal. I would argue those games aren't even worth the 800 they're charging now since they're really not worth buying at any price.

Granted there are some good games on XBLA which are a bargain like Marble Blast Ultra, but by far and large the vast majority of the titles come across as shovelware (and on an unrelated note, I'm so glad those "coin-op classics" stopped coming out).

Sure, you can buy an old RPG in the bargain bin for about the same price and get 60+ hours of entertainment from it, or maybe an xbox classic game and get 8-12, but that's not really the point now is it?

Personally, I'd almost rather play a short game because it means that A) the gameplay is less likely to get boring and repetitive for the sake of hours and B) it means I might actually finish it and get the whole package experience. I loved Portal to death, I love Braid, and when COD4 was coming out I was looking forward to a full-priced singleplayer FPS which I could reasonably expect to actually get to the end (awesome multiplayer aside).

Maybe my perspective is slightly different since I'm not in high school anymore and don't have a hundred hours a week to spend playing video games. I just don't have the patience anymore I used to for games that are nothing but filler. For me, Braid is awesome. If I were a person on an extremely limited budget and had tons of time to kill on nothing more than an allowance or a fast food salary, maybe I might think differently.

re: Arcade: Braid

For all you complainers Target has 1600 point cards for 14.99 thus negating the extra $5 Braid price.

re: Arcade: Braid

Well Worth the money.
Not so... if the cost of MS points in EU was equal to the US a lot of people wouldn't have a problem with the game being 1200, as we already pay this price in real money for the 800 points XBLA games...

"Yes, in Europe you guys pay more "dollars" which is really irrelevant. The dollar is rather weak against the Euro right now, and your economy is completely different, so direct comparisons make no sense."

Are you for real?

Using this argument, if the $ is worth less than the €, the games should be even cheaper over here...!!
