I don't really think this needs a cover system, seeing as the perspective and player speed changes when running up a hill you have pulled up from the ground to be conducive to shooting from cover, and I was able to shoot around things I was hiding behind pretty easily. When in doubt, change the terrain! I was trenching guys and throwing grenades, or popping them all into the air throwing them off-guard, there's so many tactics there that the lack of a cover system is a really minor thing.

I loved that the element of "what do I do next" was there, but not frustrating as it mainly relied on you taking notice of your surroundings to decide what to use your terrain skills on to get around. If they have more of that puzzle-solving style in the full version, this will be like a Portal-type puzzle-shooter with missiles (not to say it's Portal, terrain def. vs teleporting are two different things, but the focus on getting from point A to point B with your wits and a weapon that alters how you travel is still there).

Not to mention multiplayer! I can't wait to pop someone in the air and then blast them away, or shoot a subsonic missile under them...good times! The demo ending screen says the multiplayer levels are "made for Terrain Deformation battles", which to me sounds like WIN.

More Space marines, more annoying American macho voices. The ground de-formation is nothing more than a gimmick.

Lack of a cover system is very odd choice by the developers. That could make or break the game, which in this case would break :( Multiplayer should be fun as from one of the videos i've seen. A guy crushed inside a tunnel coz the opponent raised the ground from under him....priceless!

re: Demo: Fracture

Undecided.

This demo starts off good. Raising/lowering the ground is actually well done (a lot better than I expected at least), the grenades are cool (those crates dont know what hit 'em!) and the explosions are great.

Then you get to the combat and I went "Ugghhhhhhhh". It is really dull.

Sure you can raise the ground to create cover, but the enemy can lower it just as quick. And what are you supposed to do from behind this hill you've created? You can't take cover and point your gun just over the top to blind fire... instead you have to stick your bloke (why does he look like the dudes off Too Human and Mass Effect - can anyone tell the difference between those two characters?) out of cover to shoot. You might as well paint a bullseye on your face holding a sign saying "Easy Target - Come 'n' Get It!".

I won't mention the HUD as everyone else has said it already - completely agree.

It's a shame because this game could be great.

Anyone disagree?

It has the beutiful mixture of combat styles while still keeping its own goals in mind at nearly every turn, and while it won't be the mega hit of the holiday season, it has most certainly earned a spot in my games library, especially with the prospect of 12 man multiplayer!

Sure it has some cool concepts, but I didn't like the hand-holding. Sure it's a demo and probably the start of the game, but I just felt that you could only used the abilities when you were told to use them. Maybe if they let us play the multiplayer game I can get more excited. I think that is where this game is going to shine.

Sure if that is removed it becomes no better than any other 3rd person shooter. But since this is the first to feature it and heavily use it....i consider it fresh. Reminds me of back in the days when Max Payne came out with bullet time and made 3rd person shooters fresh. It changes how you would normal approach gameplay and same can be said with Fracture
