Considering tons of people are experiencing the same issues, it's not just a "coincidence"

I am still lacking H.264 and DivX/XviD support when using the Extender funtionality in the Xbox 360.

Major, I really hope you and your team will make the Xbox 360 and Windows Media Center THE BEST media center software out there by adding Extender support for DivX, XviD and H264 (aswell as MKV ofcourse, the open source H264 container that is the de facto standard for distributing hi definition content online).

With the Transcode 360 software available even for VMC, not adding support for these media formats is just a really disturbing argument to why one should be looking at alternative media center softwares and ways to distribute them to all displays in your own home. :(

It's a real shame, because the only reason I have bought a total of 5 xbox 360 to begin with is due to the media center functionality that is awesome - besides this "little" thing missing.

re: Dashboard Update (aka the HDMI Audio fix)

I'm no expert in the field, however I've just debugged my initial problem. First off after the update I lost my HDMI sound while still having the phono output from the Digital Audio Connection on the back of my Elite. (I use to get sound through both)

I checked the Audio options to see if some new setting had stopped the audio output, but there was nothing there.

I then decided to change the screen resolution from 1080p to 1080i, suddenly I realised I had regained my sound. With this I then changed back to 1080p and again I still had sound. It made me realise that the update itself can require a reconfiguration to get things running smoothly again. I'd suggest those that have had an RRoD try connecting with their Composite leads first and then reconfigure it back to their HDMI. Incidentally some older screens had the "prototype" HDMI compliance which was never fully HD which might cause these odd errors with people losing resolution.

Of course I'd ask for confirmation from people that know more about HDMI.

same screen, same problem...

"Hi, I have VIEWSONIC VX2835WM 28" LCD monitor connected to my Elite xbox console.

I had problems about getting signal from HDMI on previous dashboard.

After fall update and with the new dashboard I could use HDMI properly.

Whenever I started console "DVI" was displayed and I had clear/loseless and full-hd image on my screen.

But after the last update, I lost this perfect image and I only have 480P resolution now :(

I upset by this last update/fix :(((

Did you test this fix for LCD monitor displays by different vendors?

I am unhappy with that fix.

I had no problem about HDMI, but I have now :(((((

Please show me the way that I uninstall/rollback this update.

Thank you"

re: Dashboard Update (aka the HDMI Audio fix)

Damn update. Unfortunately I also installed this update yesterday, and since then I have had issues with my HDMI.

So to make it clear. I changed absolutely nothing in my setup. I have been using this setup for months - same HDMI cable, same monitor & same Xbox360 elite. I just booted my Elite yesterday and at that point - still running in 1080p. Answered yes to apply update, and after first reboot I could see that resolution had gone out the window, but figured - hey I can just go change once it has finished applying second update - but noooooooooo.

Before update everything was great and all resolutions 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p could be selected and was working on my screen.

NOW - only 480p is selectable.

And talk about lack of support. They are all saying the same standard answers. After spending hours talking to both US, Danish & Swedish support - same result.

"Well there should be no issues with this patch" - yeah right. Typical Microsoft - there's NEVER any issues with their software :o LOOOOL

And in relation to their answer, they wont even report this as an issue. Thanks for nothing Microsoft Support.

So I guess good old Major Nelson is my only bet as to reporting this as an issue. Hopefully they will acknowledge this and start working on a patch.

I feel your pain. Before the NXE I was running a lovely 1080 over HDMI. When I got the NXE I lost all sound and the display options were no longer 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, ect... They are now more like PC display settings (800x600, 1024x720, ect....)I work weird hours so I was emailing the MS helpdesk and it took 6 (yes 6) emails just to get someone to understand I was trying to use HDMI. I just kept getting, what I can assume, a form letted telling me to "try these options to correct my display for my VGA connection" (nothing about the sound problem, which is what the emails to them was about)And after over 2 weeks of emails and determining that evidently no one knew anything about this issue, they told me to send my unit in for repairs. I think they just got tired of me contacting them.

Before the update my display was setup at 1080p over HDMI. After the update I am no longer able to display 1080p through HDMI, it doesn't even let me choose 1080p. I then hooked up my component cables to my 360 and they let me play at 1080p.

So I called microsoft, and they want me to send my console in.

I installed it, and the dashboard version said I was running the new version, but Live still thought I needed the update. I got stuck in a loop of "You need to update" and then "Update Failed", and couldn't sign in to Live for a week. I spent 11 hours talking to people who didn't speak English and hadn't gotten the memo on the randomly exclusive update, and so couldn't help me. Everyone i spoke to thought I was having trouble installing the NXE, regardless of how many times I explained it. I was told someone who had authority to do something would call me back, and never got a call.

It's fine now, but I hope next time MS does an update, they let the folks in India and/or Mexico City know they did one. I honestly went crazy without my Xbox Live / streaming video / Media Center.
