Are Weblogs Inc and Gawker Media bad?

You may not know the name Weblogs Inc, but they are the company behind such popular blogs as Engadget and Joystiq just to name a few. You probably don’t know Gawker Media either but they publish Sploid, Gizmodo and Wonkette (among others.) Why am I calling them out? For one, they do RSS feeds differently then anyone else I subscribe to in my other one. Let me explain. On every other site that I read, I get full text versions of feeds. For instance, I provide full text feeds?and if in one of my stories I link off to Gamespot (for example) when you click the Gamespot link in my feed?it will take you to (surprise) Gamespot. Both Weblogs Inc. and Gawker Media don’t allow that. They insist that any links in their full feeds bring you to their site, then from there you can click to the final destination site mentioned in the story. Kinda cheap, huh? Basically, both Weblogs Inc. and Gawker Media make it mandatory that you visit their site regardless of what links they put in their full RSS feed. To make matters worse Weblogs Inc also inserts ads into the full RSS feeds. Gawker has not started doing that?..yet. What do you think of this? Does it bother you?
