Whats with “The Maw”? I was thinking “The Maw” was coming on the Marketplace today!?

If this is real Mahjong, then it would def be worth the buy. It’s tough getting friends together to play. If it’s crappy match the Mahjong tiles then you can keep it. And yeah I was looking for The Maw too.

Nevermind there it is. Will still be checking this out hoping it’s the real deal.

Once again, yet another example of the team over at Xbox NOT TELLING ANYBODY about what was getting released this week.

Is it really that hard? For the developer of this game, if your own “publisher” can’t even be bothered to announce your game it must be pretty damn heartbreaking. Seriously. Do your job!

Yeah, I agree. What the F have they been up to lately? Never though I would say this, but Microsoft is losing touch with their consumers and the community. Guess thats what happens with strong sales and a broader audience, they just don’t have to try that hard anymore. I mean – I guess – Gamerscoreblog didn’t really fly with the casual crowd. Probably why they shut them down. .

And they really should do more to promote community games.. For example, when Major showcased that virtual Fireplace-“game” in a blogpost nearly every gaming blog worth mentioning – that never otherwise take an interest in XNA games – took a note. And there are a few other titles in need of the same type of exposure. Anyway, as for this game, can’t wait to try it. I love real Mahjong (and not that Solitaire crap), so hopefully its good.

Oh will you two get off your high horse, it’s not microsoft that has to promote these games it’s up to the publishers. The onus of the promotion of this game lies with Funtown & Gigamedia not Microsoft, Also Mahjong was first publicised in december 08, with achievements listed on December 29 2008.

Granted it wasn’t publicised well, but most arcade games aren’t.

@ Vegemite: Sure, I’ve saw the achievement list and was aware of the game. The responsibility for the publicity of a single game may not be Microsofts obligation, although it should be in their best interest to promote their XBLA service. That’s what I’m talking about, obviously they have a huge part in everything concerning the Arcade program and the growth of the service is something that should be of high priority, both for themselves and their partners. The Summer of arcade-arrange were a step in the right direction, and it showed in sales, but the effort post that has been absent. And it wasn’t that long ago that they presented and announced the games on the Monday of the same week that they would release.

I enjoy a good game of majong (even the simple match-two-tiles version). It’s a good casual title to pass the time.

And if you want better XBLA titles, write to the publishers. 😉

Can anyone locate the game profile FunTown Mahjong on xboxlive.com? I’m looking for it. This sounds awesome. “Mahjong, 2 player, Xbox Live Multiplayer.” I feel in loved with Mahjong on the Sega Master System (when I had chicken pox as a kid). Mahjong Triple Threat was awesome. I look forward to playing the demo.

Is this full mah jong? I’d be really interested in this on Xbox. Got a set of tiles at home but can never find enough people to play with. The link still doesn’t work for me though.

Is this game even actually up? I don’t see it on marketplace at all, and it’s some two hours later.

I whole heartedly agree that this has been very poor form lately for all involved. At the very least Microsoft would actually have a press release handy for mondays, or even tuesdays since this was an american holiday, but we’ve had nothing lately. It’s quite poor.

I do hope that Microsoft start some sort of blog similar to the PlayStation Blog which allows the smaller developers at least some airtime where they can discuss their game. people like Little Boy Games (Go Go Break Steady), CrunchTime Games (Shred Nebula) and Blitz Games (PowerUp Forever) need somewhere to showcase their title even a week or so before release to get the community interested in their game.

Also this week, 5th grader expansion:

5th Grader: Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?™ Brainiac Pack

    Price: 150 MSP
    Availability: United States Only
“Join Mr. Foxworthy’s class and play the Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?™ trivia game. Every question is based on grade school curriculum and the answers are elementary.”

There was supposedly a METEOS WARS Planet Pack, the name popped up on the xbox.com marketplace but it seems to have gone again. Oh the drama!

Just be patient guys. I’m sure mahjong will come along soon for you to download so you can get your daily fix!

Besides it takes time for the marketplace teams to get the files and links setup for each region.

    @Rlan
I do agree with that to some point. But honestly, I rather have (example):
    Coming this Month Jan 2009
    The Maw
    FunTown Mahjong
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader – DLC
You’re in the Movies – DLC
    Resident Evil 5 Demo
    Tekken 6 Demo Trailer

Etc… I do not need a date for releases. With the Browse feature (on NXE on Xbox Live), I can look for myself. ‘Refer to a Friend’ is gone? A lot of people did not even know what it was for, let alone existed. Being a little vague keeps you on edge and if the dev in not finished by XX day, the still have the last Tues of the month to have it ready to go. Off-Schedule, but ‘on-time’. The Maw looks awesome! ANNNND you’ve already burned 150 objects!!? WOW!

I’ve been hoping for a Mah Jong title on XBLA! This is a great surprise, but I still don’t see it listed under the marketplace on xbox.com. I was hoping to add it to my queue.

Keep up the great job Major!

Major: Is there a whiney 7-16 year old filter for your blog? As in, can I somehow set the comment reader to ignore those less then 2/3 my age (ie 85% of your readers?) Please? Dear god please?

PS: I find it weird that you have two recently played icons for fallout 3. Weird.

PPS: If MS released a live enabled port of Killer Instinct for Arcade, it would be the best Arcade title ever, and I would play it every day. I’d give you 3200 points for it. I swear.
