Reminder: Xbox Live Maintenance on Tuesday


One last reminder that on Tuesday, June 16th starting at 12:01AM PST Xbox Live will be offline for up to 24 hours while we perform scheduled maintenance.  During this time Xbox Live and the ‘My Xbox’ section of will be unavailable, and the forums will be read-only.  The rest of will be available with limited interruptions.


When we turn the service back on you won’t see anything different on your console.


I know that Litheon and others will be hanging out here in the Chat and I’ll try and drop in every once in a while.  You’ll also be able to find me and a couple of my co-workers at the new Xbox Live Operations Blog.


Trixie and the community have gotten together to suggest a few things to keep you busy while we’re busy – check it out.

  1. And now: Magic the Gathering, another Arcade-Game you CAN`T DOWNLOAD from the marketplace! Why do you add more and more stuff to the marketplace when it doesnt work? FIX THE MARKETPLACE!

  2. At the moment I can’t download Sam & Max, it says the usual “Can’t retrieve information from Xbox LIVE” message. It happens elsewhere, too. Also, some features are missing and some pages don’t display at all.

    Not sure if anyone else had this problem or reported it. During the maintenance, I could not launch Windows Media Center extender on my 360. It gave me a message like “This game requires a connection to xbox live”. I am using Windows 7 Release Candidate 64 bit if that makes a difference.

  4. Oh this gets better and better. Turns out there are TWO episode packs for Arkanoid! And they are both 240MSP! And they are both 108KB! And so the full total for the full game is 1280 MSP! And you still can’t “download” them, or anything at all, even if you want to! Thanks Microsoft! 😀

  5. this is so bad…comon microsoft…we pay a lot of money for the service and now its not possible to use the marketplace at all…wth is going on??? i hate the maintenance days cuz you never can do everything right and ppl are going upset…hours and hours and no changes…even the rock band tracks are not online and should be yesterday…but because of the maintenance some ppl cant get what they want now…is ms aware of the problems with xbox live??? i dont see any reaction…the only thing they will say is just sorry! but sorry is not enough cuz we pay for xbox live! if it would be free than i wouldnt mind

  6. Yea before it was giving me an error message when I try to download Magic on Arcade. Now it deducted the points and I am getting an error message saying the download could not be completed with the status code 80070057 which if I researched correctly means I need to free up space on my HDD, but like I have 2.2 GB free so yea.

  7. Seems like games are running as fast as swimming through molesses too. Alright, this is really pissing me off now. This happens -EVERY- damn time. What the HELL were you doing with your 24 hours yesterday, Microsoft? Because the only mental image I can conjur up is just stitting on your backsides chewing gum and playing with paddle balls.

    thats the message from and i hope they will fix it so quick as possible cuz its really annoying

  9. Brilliantly, it charged me 1600 points for Sam and Max before giving the “Could not be downloaded errors”.
    Every time after that I had the option of “Download Again”.
    Which never worked.

    Now I check, my points are still gone but the “Download Again” has reverted back to “Confirm Download” and they want ANOTHER 1600 points.

    My points are still gone, so what gives?
    What do I do now?!

  10. Well, unfortunately this sort of thing always happens after “maintenance”. Did you folks really believe this time would be any different? It will all get sorted in time and laughed off by the talking heads at MS as usual. Patience…

  11. typical, xbox live returns & my brother get his third Three Red Lights.. I am just hoping it’s within warranty. I can’t even return it through support as it seems it won’t let me sign to report it! Il maybe try calling xbox instead..

  12. Darkmime I have the same problem with Magic. I spent the 800 points and it wouldn’t download. I went back and It wanted me to buy again. I even went into Download history and it’s there, but it still wants me to pay the 800 again.

  13. I’ve just tried to get the demo of Magic by pressing ‘(X) Download now’ got the “Couldn’t download” error. Then discovered it’s charged me for the 800 points for Full Game.

    So how do I go about getting my 800 points back for something I only wanted to look at.

    BTW: 2 downloads I added to my queue before the “upgrade” failed and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is no longer visible on Marketplace.

  14. Microsoft has made no comment on this problem, but they have been deleting comments from the Xbox Live Operations blog that used the name “Xbox Live Server Maintenance Team”

    Strange they have time to remove posts but not make their own.

  15. well,i tried downloading Sam and Max again a few minutes ago,after actually paying for it this afternoon(6hrs ago)…and yup,its not even registering that i have paid for it now,it now has 1600 points back next to the full game(it did have a tick this afternoon)…but of course my account has still been r*ped of 1600 points

    what a complete clusterf*ck this has been

  16. Is anyone else having disk read issues. After the update finished this morning I tried to download the DLC code for Ghostbusters to have it say invalid code which it still does, and then tired to play the game again only to have it not even read the disk. I tried a DVD and a music CD aswell and nothing works at all. Just wondering if I was alone in this.

  17. its just bad business not responding to a problem like this….all we get is the generic message….

    would it be so hard to say “hey guys we had some hiccups and are working on it right now” you know, a little nod to the people that use and buy their product.

    An update would be nice, but usually we the community get yelled at for not being patient, etc…which is total b.s. but anyway, I just figured an update would not kill them but i guess it would since this has gone on all day now.

  18. Is anyone else experiencing their xbox freeze on the dashboard at random times? The xbox has not fully crashed as I could still talk in party chat to some friends but the xbox is unresponsive to the joypad and wont do anything until i switch it off. I thought it might be the xbox playing up, but my brother and a friend had the exact same problem earlier on.

  19. hey Mr e,i know this may be a problem to be fixed for another day,but on,my xbox page how come we can only compare games with the first 3 friends who’s avatars are showing when they are online?

    like when we look at a friend on our list from ‘>>my xbox page>>friends’ who hasn’t been online for 2 days,we can’t compare games…how come?,there is no option,only on those who’s avatars are showing

  20. oh look at some of the comments from the douchebags that said this maintenance has nothing to do with the dashboard when the dashboard freezes for a few seconds when looking in parties and backing out?

    and i dare someone say its my 360 when its not since my sh*t is 2 days old. stop riding microsoft’s stick so much and you wouldn’t be so much as drones, sucking up to every announcement they make.

  21. I just noticed that I can’t view friend’s achievements anymore through the compare link is gone and clicking through shows my own. Was this removed on purpose? Seems odd that achievements are private now..
