I tried out the demo this morning and ended up picking it up. Was really fun. Avatar awards were a nice surprise as well. Looking forward to playing more.

I downloaded and played the demo this morning and played through it twice. I enjoyed nearly everything about the game.

My only complaint is with the controls.

I suppose I could get accustomed to aiming with the left thumbstick, even though every other popular shooter in the world uses the right thumbstick for aiming. Perhaps later in the game, or in the full game, there are controls where this makes sense and the left thumbstick was the only viable option. I could most likely learn to deal with that.

What I can’t deal with is the lack of being able to invert my aim for the sniper tower. I realize that I may be in the minority that inverts their controls, but when I attempt to play as a sniper it feels like I am drunk. On top of trying to aim with my right thumbstick instinctively (and instead zooming in) I try to aim up and instead I aim down, making it nearly impossible to target anything.

I would have bought this game and I bet other people like me would too. As it stands I can barely play it and don’t feel like retraining my hands to do the opposite of what nearly every other game does.

I hope I don’t sound too negative, I am simply trying to provide some feedback for the game, which I hope can help you improve the experience and make the developer more money.

This is one of those cases that’s hard to tell wether it’s worth its price tag or not.

The good part is that you get avatar awards and those stuff usually costs between 200 and 300 points wich adds value to the game but again there might be people that don’t care about it and would preffer a 800 points game and then decide if they want to purchase avatar gear or not.

The next good thing is the high production values. Great design, fitting sound effects and score… may this justify the price tag?

On the bad news, if you strip down to the bone this game, you’ll get just anoter tower defense game. Yeah, this is a good point since this kind of gameplay is proven to be addictive but back to the pricing policy, this kind of games are usually 800 (southpark, grid defense…) You get to control personally the towers (aim and shoot) making it more involving and fun but again, it was done before and was cheaper.

So you see I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. Feels like instant buy, but something tells me I might regret later when I’ll have seen all what it has to offer and find myself not playing it anymore but wanting this or that other arcade. Budget keeps brains working LOL.

ON A SIDE NOTE, it’s not posted at this blog, but there is an add at the dashboard leading you to new avatar clothing related to the block/house party promo for any who may concern. Be warned they are funny tshirts but none of them are free (yet).

May some come with along with the 400 msp and the extran month.

No inverted aim option? Won’t even bother trying the demo then as there is no way I could get used to the controls.

Horrible controls/options make no sense, maybe they will patch it…

Also a lack of mustard gassing hordes of young teenagers who were forced with the choice of going to war or being shot in the head for not going back in their country😛

No invertible controls = no sale. That’s simply not how I play games.

Love the fact that this game along with some of the other recent arcade titles have avatar awards. It’s a shame that more retail discs do not support this functionality. What was the last retail disc to have it, assassins creed 2 or L4D2? I really hope more retail games coming this year have them. Major, can you comment on any other games that will have avatar awards? Can we expect some of the other block party games to have avatar awards? Can’t wait to pick up the rest of the arcade games this month. Game room will be one expensive purchase after I download the arcade games for the xbox. Looking forward to seeing what new ones we get each week. Oh, and mega man 10 the last week of March is awesome!! Great month!!

I dont think that the sound effects are good or fitting @ Z4MO. There isnt a delay if youre using the gun and waiting for the impact noise for example. MG-noise sounds not like youre using a mg at all. Those bad sound effects are a big killer at me. Because this game lives by using the different units, the sound effects should be better than graphics imo. At the current state its completely different. Im disappointed, but tend to rate it with a 3/5.

Really growing on me now, you can at least invert/southpaw the vast majority of units controls – just not things like sniper tower …

No excuse for not trialing it for anyone, free avatar prop when we trial all 3 block party games😛

Sorry to hear that, but I’m not experiencing the sound delay at least in the trial. Anyone else can confirm that?
Concerning to how real it sounds, let’s keep in mind that those theorically are just toys (wind up tanks and such). If you lived enough to see any noise coming out a wind up tin toy you’ll know what I mean:) I’d love to have an option to switch to kids voices simulating those POW! and SPLOOSH! sounds😀

Nice video review, Greenskull. Perhaps you should start your own blog instead of giving N4G unlimited rights to use your material. Anywho, I played the demo for Toy Soldiers and enjoyed it, but it’s just not entirely my cup of tea; never been a huge tower defense fan. It’s still a solid and interesting title though.

On topic, downloaded the demo last night and going to try it this morning. This is why I prefer XBL to PSN. You have demos for all arcade games

Just 2 things: people who got free codes for full game downloads (like toy soldiers) are still edible to get the 400 msp offer ? May they get scrap metal and perfect dark and then find out there is no offer for them. Any official word about this would be nice.

Also, how will the avatar gear build-a-code thing work ? I meant, are we reciving our part of the code by personal message on our xbox once we purchase/try that given week’s arcade, or at the end of the week. Details were lost in translation in my country:)
