As soon as I saw Laura demo Video Kinect I immediately thought wouldn’t it be cool to be able to also use this with a Windows Phone 7 device. With Video Kinect already announced to work with Windows Live Messenger, extending that functionality to Windows Phone 7 would be a great addition. I could definitely see using this functionality on my phone to talk to my family at home in front on the Xbox. HTC already has phones with forward facing cameras and now with the iPhone 4 having a video chat feature this would give a good competitive advantage (being able to video chat with a home console rather than just people who have the same phone as you). I think it is also safe to assume that allot of the early adopters of Windows Phone 7 will be Xbox owners – if Xbox Live is a big selling point wouldn’t video chat between and xbox and a WP7 device also be a selling point?

Listening to Stepto talk about how he knew about the Kinect name before anyone else because he “Needed to make sure no one was talking about it.” brings a whole new sense of understanding to his Policy and “Enforcement” role at Microsoft.

pretty nicely done, i really hope kinect is cheaper, considering the guess of stores is like $2,300 pesos, also really thanks for the podcast early.

Still haven’t seen a reason to get Kinect yet. I will just use the Vid conf with my Microsoft Xbox Live Vision Camera. Can’t believe you didn’t make the Slim net port gigabit.

I need this dubbed in Brummie, not that I’m not keen on any of their voices, but I need a cheap laugh every week.

Loved the show. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. Oh, and I wanted to let anyone in the Southern Maine area know that the new 360 is available at retailers. I just got mine on Wednesday.. And they weren’t lying when they said whisper quiet…Thanks! Can’t wait til next week’s show.

E3 2010 was an absolute disaster for Xbox. It was almost embarrassing watching the conference as a loyal Xbox owner. I think the majority of us were waiting for major reveals in big game new and instead we got a cheesy ‘family entertainment’ Kinect presentation. There was some ok stuff but for the most part – a complete flat tire. Does anyone remember when Xbox used to be cool? Not anymore. Now it’s the overpriced, underperforming ‘Nintendo Wii’ from Hell.

Great show as always:) Bad Company 2’s onslaught mode is not bad, but the game really just needs new rush and conquest maps!

I have to agree with LittleBlueAlien about xbox at E3 – I am sorry to say, but it was indeed a very flat tire this year! Sony outclassed them in every single way: they showed off way more titles, had way more exclusives to brag about, had great humour and audience involvement throughout and even showcased Move way better than microsoft showcased Kinect (they showed it working in games while the kinect stuff could have easily been acted out/choreographed).

I was massively underwhelmed with microsofts press conference overall – way too much frills about Kinect (without showing it off very well) and nowhere near enough info about games for gamers (not kids, girls and grannies). The only decent part was the reveal of the new 360, but we all saw that coming a mile off. I guess this year being a lull for xbox at E3 was inevitable after last years awesome show.

yup, sorry MS,this year you came last out of the big 3…some decisions MS have been making the last few months(no free Joy ride, concentrate on Kinect, stopping MMOs coming to the 360)and PSN+ coming out where you get free games every month….something has to change,as SONY have just said PS3 is starting to hit its stride now, while the 360 has lost a lot of momentum over this last year

the console climate in the UK must be different than in the US because i don’t have the same feelings as littlebluealien, xLoCk 0nx and metallicorphan about e3 and the 360’s position.

one thing i will point out though is, xLoCk 0nx said:
“The only decent part was the reveal of the new 360, but we all saw that coming a mile off.”

a mile off, really? sure there were leaked mobo pics months ago but that didn’t mean that they were real or that it was even going to be mass produced. everyone knew the night before because of the italian ad. but a mile off, no way.

How not? PS3 had done their slim version. Wii had done their black version. DS had done a million other models. It was inevitable that Microsoft would release a new xbox – what the exact details of it were unknown, but rumour was utterly rife in the xbox community of one being announced at E3! Did you seriously not expect to see a new model of the 360 at E3???

@xLoCk 0nx: would you have considered it a failure if there hadn’t been a new 360 at e3?

    Like

  • xLoCk 0nx

Not quite sure what you mean (failure for xbox overall, or just in the press conference?). I’d have considered the conference to have been even more lack lustre had it not been announced, yes. The new xbox is a marketting tool to get more people to buy an xbox. This includes seasoned xbox users like myself who just want a cool looking xbox, but will also reach out to other people who have never had an xbox before. Lets face it – the sleek design of the Kinect hardware would look awfully out of place next to the old 360 (even the black elite), because the black elite is matt effect while Kinect has a glossy finish. Again, I might be beating a dead horse by saying this, but I feel it was inevitable that a newer, smaller, sexier xbox 3-sexy was going to be released in time for Kinect.

What I will say about the new xbox is that I was majorly impressed with it – it really does look the business – totally wicked design, and great new features (but still that clunky ol’ disc tray :/). Also, the fact that it was shipping to stores ON THAT DAY was an incredibly well kept secret – let me stress that it was the announcement of the new 360 that I considered inevitable. What did surprise me was just how immediate it was being made available!
