Price change for Xbox LIVE Gold subscription

Unless listed above, there is no change in any other subscription packages.

Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.

Again, the only subscription packages impacted are those mentioned above. For instance, the 12m UK Price? Not affected since it is not mentioned above.

Edit: You can sign in and hit this page on Xbox.com to find out when your Xbox LIVE subscription expires.

wtf! You don’t even give us enough content to justify $50 let alone $60.. glad I’m paid up for the next year and a half…

Well I hope the UK gets ESPN then, at least something to make the price hike somewhat reasonable. Major, anything at all on last weeks missing games on demand, what’s arriving tomorrow and whether Dead Rising: Case Zero will arrive alongside?

So what about seven year Xbox Live gold members like myself? I think with that dedication to your service I should retain the current price model.

Let’s all thank ESPN/Last FM/Twitter/Facebook and every other useless additional service for this. What a world of butthurt…

Wow that is ridiculous. If you want to do something decent for the community ditch Microsoft Points and charge real money instead of upping the price of Live.

So what new features are you giving us to justify the $10 increase? Currently we pay $50 for the features we have to date, If you arent adding something totally new then how is this not just an increase to offset costs?

Im fine if you have to increase it because of the cost of running has increased, But I feel you should say that instead of saying “We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.” The discount program is a good first step in making the yearly fee a better value but you still need to do more. (free games like PSN is doing or free expansions… something)

I don’t really like the sound of this. I already pay 50 bucks a year for the service and I don’t even use all the additional things you offer. If I want facebook, twitter or radio I will use my computer or a real radio.

Last.FM, Twitter, and Facebook shouldn’t even factor into the price since they’re already free to use on the internet. Not to mention some people, like myself, rarely ever even use them on my 360. And I don’t give a damn about ESPN and I won’t be using it. This price increase is ridiculous. Maybe Microsoft is trying to push people to the Playstation 3.

Why are you going to charge more in mexico if we dont even have netflix and will probably never have ESPN, i heard you were going to add the zune store but that is not worth the 100 pesos, and im not interested on kinnect and you are going to add kinect video but why pay for this feature that i will never going to use? and that i need that peripheral so we buy the kinect and then you are going to charge us extra so we can use the video capabilities of kinect? wow microsoft keeps charging and charging for any reason.

It’s worth pointing out, that in typical marketing speak “Lock in” means 1 year at the $39.99 then back to regular pricing. I quote (from the mouse print): “One year subscription at $39.99 for the first year with auto-renewal at the then current annual price following year one.”
I still need my live, it gives me Netflix, but this is pushing it. I may buy Live scratch cards to get me set for a few years, unless some BIG announcement comes soon (and it better not be the canceling of something else. Another large 1vs100 style game might push me back in).

My God. If they increase the price for Ireland I will be pissed because we only get half the content compared to the american xbox live.

    We Don’t Have:

ESPN (Well we won’t be getting it)
    Last FM
    Netfix
    Can’t enter competitions
    Indie Games

So they better not increase the price for Ireland.

What a great idea, raise prices when developers are already starting to charge extra to play online! Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!!!

Screw this. I got one more year of GOLD and I am NOT renewing. All you additional services are crap btw. That is why I got a PC.

I won’t mind the global price increase so much if I knew that Microsoft was working to get the same ‘value added’ features to other countries that are currently enjoyed by or planned for the US members.

Otherwise, limit the price increase to the US only.

Wow… This is going to make purchasing multiple accounts a little harder. $20 extra for my wife’s account and mine. As a LONG TIME member of Xbox Live I hope these new features live up to my expectations or I might just go Silver. =

Seriously? You guys better start providing services for Gold users that don’t require us to pay more to other companies to use them (Netflix, ESPN, Last.FM, etc.) or something. What MORE are we getting for paying more?

Personally, I’m happy to continue to pay £40 a year for xbox live. However I do also believe that the price should be dropping as opposed to increasing. I’m not sure about the economics behind this move but I think it’s the wrong move. What with the Playstation 3 gaining ground, and their offering of a subscription service as completely optional and not a requirement to play multiplayer online on their network.

I would prefer to see Xbox Live matching this structure.
