Clearing up some confusion

Clarification time! The console replacement plan that is the subject of some of today’s headlines is related to a previous update, NOT the system update that has been in public beta and will be deployed shortly.

The new disc format that is part of the beta has been rigorously tested across all Xbox 360 models and there are no known compatibility issues.

Hope that clears a few things up.

I usually have to eject my disc and then put it back in, and it plays.  I just hope this new update doesn’t cause me any problems.  I know with the beta, a few people were saying that it was causing problems for them.

    – Err, no it doesn’t.  But thanks anyway??

Agreed.  WHICH update caused the problem?  WHICH consoles are affected (all from a certain production date range? all those with a particular DVD, chipset, HDD?).  Not only that, but an official report of what EXACTLY the problems are would be nice too.

what doesnt it clear up?  if your xbox has been working since the last update, then it isnt you.  If your console WAS affected, then xbox contacted you already and you got a new xbox.  I dont understand why no one on here can figure this out.

I haven’t had my xbox on the internet since I moved in, in January. How will I know which update could “break” it, and will Microsoft still contact me if it does?

If there is trouble when updating and people need to exchange consoles, you should have a similar welcome-back-program as Sony just had sopeople had something to look forward too..

It’s not free console program – it’s a replacement-program for a console wich breaks after various MS certified updates, I gather.

Most people allready have a console until it breaks.🙂

The console is compensation for the broken hardware.:)

But I were thinking that maybe there should also be put in some more effort to compensate for the time without 360 or the wait for the replacement unit in the mail, for the unlucky few this happens too.🙂

They won’t even touch your console seeing as you opened it up.. Because you put a new Laser in the console.. Microsoft doesn’t have to repair it seeing as that’s not the Laser that came with the console therefore it’s not under the Consoles Warranty..

      Your fault..

If you buy the repair for a 100 bucks warranty has got nothing to do with it. Had the same thing, paid €90,- for a repair (around $127,- you sobs) they gave me a brand new one in 7 days…

So any machine that has not had that update might be broken once updated. EG I have a brand new 60 gig machine still security sealed and if I update this is there a chance this will break. Why not just say which DVD-ROM drives cannot be updated to the new anti piracy firmware

Nope.  He is saying it was an older update.  The spring update which has the new firmware update will not cause issues.

Which older version specific do they mean?

I guess “old consoles” meaning non slim ones. So im guessing the Slims are safe from this?

Pressing the X button for ‘doubt’.   When was the last update, the fall?  And Microsoft is now just deciding they shoudl replace consoles they bricked?  Doesn’t make sense to me.
