I understand why Games on Demand prices are why they are but I can’t see anyone paying the full $60 (at least that’s what it’s priced here in Canada) for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 when the sequel is only a couple months away.

What will the price drop on Gears of War (GoD) be?

They’re down to $15 each here in Canada.

games on demand prices are ridiculous to say the least.most of the games on demand games can be found for a fraction of the cost somewhere else.even 15 dollers is to high for gears considering i can go to my local game store and pick it up for 7.99 to 9.99 at the most to hell with xbla and there games on demand.i have to really be impressed to buy even a arcade tittle.and its sad because at the end of the day microsoft is the one loosing money because nobody buys that stuff.

Get used to it, they are trying to kill of disks so they can kill off the selling of used games. After they do that they keep the prices high just because there will be no other way to get the games. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next xbox (or the one after that) does not include a DVD drive at all. Then the only way to get games it full price downloads.

Not a chance. It will be a number of years before discs are killed off completely on consoles for a couple of reasons:

        1) There are still a large percentage of console gamers that don’t have their consoles connected to the internet. Until that reaches probably close to 95%, they’re not going to abandon disc sales because they’ll be leaving a huge chunk of revenue on the table.

        And most importantly,

        2) The console makers can’t afford to anger the retailers which they’ll do if Microsoft starts undercutting retailers by offering Games on Demand dirt cheap.

Doing this will cost them valuable marketing from retailers (flyers, in store kiosks/displays etc) and could lead to the retailers cutting back orders on hardware, which Microsoft needs the retailers to sell so that gamers have the necessary hardware to be able to spend money on Xbox Live Marketplace.

I guarantee that if it weren’t for having to please the retailers, Games on Demand prices would be cheaper because I can’t imagine that they’re selling a ton at the current pricing, especially on older games that are still full price (see the example I mentioned above).

Your points make sense, but Steam is already paving the way for 100% download content. The publishers are also really harping on used game sales. I think they will start pushing Microsoft hard to do download only content. Microsoft may have all the retailers in the world, but without publishers and developers it won’t work very well.

Download games mean more money for the developers and publishers, so they may do an end run around Microsoft and just stop distributing games via disk. In the end it is up to them, and not Microsoft, how the game is delivered.

Also Microsoft has already built in WiFi into the new Xbox, so getting online is trivial, all the user needs is a $30 router. Right now their just isn’t a complelling reason to connect online unless you play multiplayer games (which I don’t). However, if that is the only way to get games I guarantee more will connect online.

This also has the benefit of increasing the number of Xbox Live users and Subscribers which means more money for Microsoft, so it is a win, win for Microsoft and Publishers

“Your points make sense, but Steam is already paving the way for 100% download content.”

The biggest differences are that a) Almost everyone who has a PC has it connected to the internet so by going nearly 100% digital on PC isn’t going to cost the publishers/developers much, if anything, in the way of sales and most importantly b) Valve doesn’t have to rely on retailers to sell their hardware, Microsoft does. That’s why Valve can cut prices to next to nothing because they don’t care if they piss off the retailers.

As for getting more people connected, you have to factor in that wireless networking might be easy for you, me & everyone else that reads Major’s blog but setting it up is a foreign concept to a lot of people. Also, there are still a decent number of people that don’t have broadband, either because they don’t feel it’s necessary, don’t want to pay the cost or can’t get it in their home.

Games going exclusively digital on consoles is going to happen, I have no doubts about that but it’s still a long way off. That said, I do see day & date releases on XBLM (and PSN on that side of things where it’s already started with a couple of games) being more common very soon, possibly long before new consoles.

Me personally? I’ll stick to discs whenever possible for as long as it takes me less time to drive to the store than it does to download a game.

Games on Demand can’t do multi-disc games. Also, they never include online passes so with Mass Effect 2 you’d miss out on all the free dlc that new copies of the game are advertised as coming with. Just buy the games on disc.

Gears of war 1 and 2 is tge sane price as buyingi on the disc in the store if you picking up the package without the maps, It’s almost possible the next xbox 360 won’t allow us to play xbox 360 disc on it, will allow us to play digital xbox 360 games and xbla games connected to your gamer tag if xbox wants to keep the whole you get your games forever till your dead plan and your gamertag for every
xbox you have in your life. This would make alot of sence like the gamerscore you get now is the rank you get in your next xbox if you have a million by the time time you get your next xbox your a elit with disconnects on games and dlc on the next system plus a new crystal and glowing gamertag unlike everyone. Depending on your rank you hade in your past xbox 360..

It’s a fun game, although it ends abruptly and has some framerate issues.  It has some good climbing, shooting and water effects.  I’m still miffed that it got even more gameplay upgrades as the PC release “Hydrophobia Prophecy,” which the 360 “Pure” version didn’t get.  Prophecy was supposed to come out on PSN, but that fizzled out apparently.
