People should stop complaining because they already own the DLC. So do I, but there are some people outside who surely will be grateful for this years offers. I got Bastion and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and wouldn’t even now, for what other content to wait, since most of the big guns this year have already been on sale (like Outland, Stacking, ilomilo – gorgeous game btw, Radiant Silvergun). Keep on with the good work🙂

Why should that surprise anyone?  Ever since games jumped from 400/800 to 800/1,200, none of this content is “on sale.”  Instead, a few brief times each year, they price it at the REAL price.

Why have permanent discounts, when you can have permanently overpriced games and DLC with occasional “real price” sales?

And to the people that keep complaining and saying “Why isn’t Microsoft paying attention to us?” – they are.  They’re paying attention to the fact that every single time they have one of these pseudo-sales, their profits increase on those items.

They aren’t trying to make the customers happy with 200 MSP super-sales on good games that were once 800.  They’re making out like bandits with sales like this, from people who buy into them without realizing they could have bought the complete edition for $19.99 a week ago in most stores …

They do it, because it works.  And it won’t ever change, because doing so wouldn’t help their profits.

He’s not wrong though. I used to buy loads of arcade games when they were 400/800 points. Now I just ignore them all until they drop to that price in one of the sales.

Right now you can pick up the boxed copies of both RDR and RDR Undead for less than these so called “sale” prices!

It’s no different with Windows Phone 7, pretty much everything on there is overpriced compared to the android and iOS equivalents.

Yeah, Arcade games have increased in price but guess what? They’ve generally increased in quality as well.

People like to remember the pricing from the first year of XBLA without remembering what we were getting for that price. A ton of Arcade ports and simple flash/card/board games.

Now we’re mostly getting completely original games that have extensive development cycles and are packed with content that can last in some cases as long or longer than some retail games with things like Bastion, Trials HD, Shadow Complex, Twisted Pixel’s games, Joe Danger, Trine 2 etc.

Maybe you’d like to go back to the days where we were getting $5 ports of 30-year-old games but I’m quite happy with things the way they are.

You’re exactly right.  You can’t charge the same price for games like Costume Quest or Rock of Ages (Which are retail release quality on their own) that you did for Street Fighter 2 and Ms. Pac-man. The definition of what the Xbox LIVE Arcade is has changed for the same reason we aren’t still using “blades”

The key phrase there is “pretty good.” This sale isn’t supposed to be “pretty good.” Is that what Steam is offering? Or is that what Microsoft offered last year? This is the end of year sale, the time when you show your dedicated customers some love and offer some killer deals. And yet, people like you are satisfied with “pretty good.”

I completely agree, Chris.  It’s not about 360 hate, it’s about disappointment.  Every day I stare at that stupid Kinect module )which I recently had to disable because it was interfering with video on demand), I wonder why I bother investing money in it at all.  We pay for everything, get bombarded with adds, have a new interface which is sluggish and pointless and any games worth mentioning are now multi-platform anyway.  Any exclusives worth mentioning only exist on PS3.  Gamers have only one real choice any more.

Exactly. I love Microsoft, and I have since the first XBOX arrived. I have stood by this company for years now, investing A LOT of money in their games and hardware. Yet, I will not stand by and watch as a company gets big-headed and greedy and starts to nickel and dime their customers all over the place. Throwing ads into the new dashboard and NOT reducing the price at all is pathetic. There is no way we should be dealing with ads and not receiving any kind of benefit. And then, to me, their worst offense is the Games on Demand. The fact that they even have the NERVE to offer digital games at a HIGHER price than packaged games in a store is absolutely unbelievable. They are saving money by not having to deal with a packaged game and not having to go through an outside dealer, and yet they RAISE the price? Seriously? Sony would never do something like that. I guarantee you. They’ve shown over the years how much they care about their consumers, and frankly, they’re about to add one more to the list.

I’m sure you’re right. Sony has almost always done an excellent job of showing their care for their consumers. I mean, heck, it’s as simple as offering free multiplayer. Sure, some people may proclaim that XBOX offers the “bonuses” that justify a price charge, but honestly, the service isn’t THAT good to warrant $10 a month. And it’s just examples like that of how Microsoft really tries to nickel and dime you. And frankly, it pisses me off. I GUARANTEE you if LittleBigPlanet was on XBOX, they would charge for user-created content. I guarantee it. And that’s just how Microsoft is.

I agree. I was giving feedback on the MS feedback forums about all this awhile back. I doubt they even read their own forums though. I’m in the same boat, I’ve been playing XBL since 2002 and recently I feel like MS is just shitting all over us.

I’m seriously considering a move over to the ps3. The only thing keeping me back is their controller, my achievements and loss of a robust online service (then again you can play online for free).

I’ll wait until Feb when my XBL is due for a renewal to decide but it’s unlikely they’ll change directions by then.

And I can name a ton of people who absolutely love poorly reviewed movies. But that does not mean that I just take a common person’s assessment about a movie over someone who has been trained in reviewing and has a ton more experience in doing it. The vast majority of the time, the reviewer gets it right in those situations. Which makes sense, as they are far more qualified. Furthermore, most of the time the “qualities” which people like in poorly reviewed games are simple, basic qualities that require little thought or effort.

You know whats better than taking someone’s word for something, professional or otherwise? Actually seeing something for yourself. Reviews give nothing more than offhand impression, you cant act like you know if somethings good or bad without at least seeing it for yourself. And reviews are opinions, varied and unique, and they dont always agree with one another, as I said (and you clearly ignored) the games you dismissed were also reviewed well by certain sites, so I dont know what youre talking about.

I have to admit that I was saving my points for months hoping these deals we’re going to be good… it started strong, got a little weaker, then died a horrible death, only to have a few small signs of life. This ’12 days of deals’ idea is making such a small amount of people happy that it’s not even worth doing. Seriously, who does Microsoft pay to come up with these? because they need to be ‘future endeavored’ to make way for people who actually understand this day and age. Yes Microsoft, you don’t need to be like Steam because you have so much more money.. but at least show a little affection for your core demographic. This is the time of year of giving… not insulting us with deals like these when I can get every and all things your offering cheaper elsewhere. I love my 360, I love being an xbox gamer, but I don’t love watching my 360 turn into a netflix device because games are cheaper and come with more content on my PC.

It’s really sad for me when it’s my day off and I look at my 360 and I can’t think of a reason to play a game on it. Just look at what GOG did. They gave me a free game that fed my nostalgia (Empire Earth) and then offered me deals so good that I bought so many of them I don’t even think I can play them all. This is how discounts work. You wet a buyers apatite and then make them an offer they can’t refuse. Godfather reference intended. Before you know it money is flowing in and people are extremely happy (a single happy customer will gain you ten new ones but one unhappy customer will lose you a hundred new ones.. basic marketing) and since there library has gotten so big there more likely to continue to buy games for that system. That’s just basic marketing.. people hate have multiply systems for there games (the whole reason the newer ones are backwards compatible) This is marketing 101. How dose a company as big and powerful as Microsoft have a complete failure in understanding the basics of marketing?

The disappointment isn’t a reflection on the quality of the content. It’s all good stuff, it’s just been out for a while and done to death. At this point, what’s being listed as a “special offer” sale price really ought to be the standard price given how old the content is. This is my problem with digital distribution on a service like the xbox; Microsoft are the gate keepers, they have a monopoly on what content gets onto their service which means they can dictate the price. This isn’t good for the consumer since there’s no real need to push the prices down, as these cruddy sales have shown. Look at what Microsoft have been pushing as a special offer, then look at what Steam have been doing. It leaves the XBl marketplace looking like a very bad deal all around.

I strongly recommend the Undead Nightmare Pack. The sale price is good. But if you want them all then get the Undead Nightmare Collection which includes: UN, L&K, and L&C.

In regards to the 12 Day Sale. Microsoft, come on, Steam has Dungeon Defenders for about $4. That’s the game, not the DLC! And there are other games that are also on XboxLive.

I dont have a PS3 so I dont even know if they have a sale going on. For me (I have two PC´s) Valve’s Steam is the direct (and most aggressive) competitor to Microsoft’s Xbox Live marketplace. Now more so than ever that the Xbox is going beyond just a game console (though a gaming console is all I want the Xbox to be).
