Open Call, More Testers Welcome for 2012 Xbox LIVE Update Public Beta!

The amount of interest we received in July for the 2012 Xbox LIVE Update Public Beta was so staggering that today we’re announcing a second open call for Xbox LIVE subscribers to test out the beta program. I can tell you that we’re accepting far more beta-testers this time around, but space is still limited and once the spots are filled the beta will be closed, so sign up today!

If you’re selected, an update will be pushed to your Xbox 360 in the next few days. The update will contain new Xbox LIVE features, including:

  • Internet Explorer for Xbox
  • Recommendations and ratings
  • Pinning and favorites
  • Enhanced category search and discovery features
  • Voice search (in specified markets)

Note: A console in the program is expected to remain fully compatible with standard retail consoles not in the program.

If you would like to participate, please register for the 2012 Xbox LIVE Update Beta here. You will be required to agree to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for confidentiality reasons. Any participant who violates the NDA will be removed from this beta and all Xbox betas moving forward, and will not have access to Xbox LIVE until the end of this beta program period. Our NDA enforcement squad is really good at finding violators; so save us both the trouble and don’t test them. We also ask that you fill out a brief 5-minute survey at the end of the beta to let us know what you think.

Your interest and passion in helping the Xbox team has been awesome and we’re very excited to see the early feedback so that we can make Xbox even better. Thanks again for your participation and enjoy!

Update: Several users have reported an issue with accessing the registration link for this program — keep trying – there is a high demand on the site right now due to the popularity of the program.

Update: The full registration process should now be available to everyone. If you hit an issue accessing the site please keep trying – there is a high demand on the site due to the popularity of the program.

Thank you for re-opening it. I missed the last one because I worked nights and happened to be sleeping. It was a bit crazy the last one was only open 3 hours.

However Is there an option to change the gamertag that signed up like previous betas? I’m sure I put my gamertag with no mistakes however there is always that small amount of doubt. Just want to make sure if I did then I can get that changed🙂

This is from the beta site, the product key link will be up later. Just wait. “To optimize registration for users, product keys for console registration will be available shortly. Once product keys are available, you will see the link for them on the left-hand side of this site. If you already have a Product Key, you can proceed with registering your console. Thanks for signing up!”

they are probably getting another batch of keys or they are slowing down the registration process to prevent crashing the system.

Alright. Hopefully this will post this time. My dashboard for the Xbox live beta on Microsoft connect is empty with sections for faqs, announcements, and articles and that’s it…

Major, do you have a link to the NDA? I signed up for the program, and I agreed to the NDA, but now I can’t find the text of it.

I presume I have not been selected (yet). I have a question about the NDA. If I am selected, am I allowed to tell anyone that I’ve been selected? I can’t remember if that was in the NDA text.

You can tell people that you are IN the dashboard update (i.e. if they
see you “playing” Internet Explorer), but you CAN’T tell anyone about
      it.

There is NO requirement for you to hide your online status.

I.E. You CANNOT tell someone that Internet Explorer for Xbox 360 lets
you do “X”, “Y”, and “Z”. This includes saying that it has/supports “X”
      feature, doesn’t have/support “Y” feature, and “Z” feature is/isn’t
      planned for the future.

So if you needed to reply to a friend’s message, you could just simply say this:
“Yes, I’m in the dashboard update preview program which includes Internet Explorer. I CANNOT discuss details about it.”

Hope you guys get in, I got in the first wave and love it! I had a few issues but the last update fixed them and everything runs so damn fast n smooth now. Good job MS, keep it up. It is odd having a browser now though lol, I never use them on consoles anyways but I can see why some like them, it works pretty good too.

No I’m not a paid “thread poster” or a bot, just liking the changes is all. Now back to DS2 and Transformers. Enjoy!

When product keys are released, you’ll have to redeem the code on your console anyway. They’ll see what GT redeemed the key. I’m sure they took typo’s into consideration when filling out the agreement. You’ll probably be able to correct it later.
