Official Statement on what was said yesterday

I wanted to give you the official Microsoft Statement regarding some comments you may have seen yesterday::

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers.  We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

As frequent readers of my blog know, the moment we have news about our products I will be sharing all the details I can.

    MS may want to start putting out the fire and I mean not with some meaningless PR drivel but with an offical “Yes we’re doing this Always on” or “No, there’s no such thing”

    Simple.

    And yes there’s a huge fire just over at Gamespot; the article on Orth’s tweet is getting 30 comments a sec, it’s currently at 5200 comments:)

      There’s probably going to be two versions of the console. The cheap version will require an always on connection, because you will have to pay to play, until you pay it off. And the other version will require you to pay in full.

    Everybody knows that Microsoft is going to offer two versions of the console. If you want a console at a low cost, then guess what? You’ll be on a pay to play plan. And you need a constant connection for that. If you don’t want something like that, guess what? You’ll be paying full price for the console, with no strings attached.

    I BET everyone would change their tune if Microsoft came out and said you can pay 99 dollars for the next console, but you must always have a connection. People would be running to the store in flocks. lol

    Yeah, nothing short of “we’re not doing it” will suffice right now.

    I have been an Xbox owner for almost three years. In the last year or two, these things happened:

    1. Almost no exclusive disc-based games beyond Kinect stuff and the Halo-Gears-Forza-Fable quartet;
    2. Dashboard updates pushing ads even to Gold subscribers;
    3. Arcade and Indie games pushed more and more to the background (thanks to ads, but not only – see next point);
    4. Smaller developers complaining more and more about how difficult it is to work with Microsoft now, which led to…
    5. LIVE used to beat the sh*t out of PSN in terms of interesting digital games up to two years ago. Now games like these are as rare as ever, most of those that gave LIVE that rep (Braid, Castle Crashers et cetera) are everywhere, most of the best ones in 2012 are PSN exclusives, and those that Microsoft still published (like Mark of the Ninja) are also available on PC, so there’s absolutely no reason to get an Xbox if you want these kinds of games now;

    6. MS is not following what the competitors are doing right. I don’t expect MS to give me free games monthly (it *should*, but I simply know it won’t), but MS already has deals and Rewards programs, and these are *s*cking balls* in comparison with what Sony has done in the last 12 months.
    7. And then my subscription expired a couple months after I was done with Halo 4’s multiplayer. In years prior I immediately received a discount offer to renew. No such thing this time, even with all the ads and participation in two beta programs in a row. That’s when I decided not to renew. It’s been months since I saw a deal of the week that interested me. All game demos “exclusive to Gold members” were available the same day on PSN for *everyone* (save for Gears, of course). I don’t even need to be connected to PSN to use Netflix in there, why would I pay for Gold to use Netflix on Xbox? And so on.

    So I’d say that those that only own an Xbox may feel they are getting something worth their money, and more power to them. But for those that are dedicated enough to gaming to get more than one console, or even those that at least prod enough on what’s happening on the other side, it’s pretty transparent that MS has been doing all sorts of wrong lately. Always-online actually is just the last straw.

    Microsoft wouldn’t willing hand over business to the competitor. Therefore, I’m confident that there’ll be two versions of the console. If you want a console at a low cost, then guess what? You’ll be on a pay to play plan and that will come in some type of special form. And you need a constant connection for that, so if you decide not to pay guess what? You are cut off! If you don’t want something like that, guess what? You’ll be paying full price for the console, with no strings attached.

    well…adam orth was originally working for sony.
    besides, I’m confident this always-online requirement will not pass.

    this always-online rumor is probably referring to the optional ability to remain connected to xbox live at all times. you know how you have to keep connecting back to live all the time? well…we probably won’t need to do that anymore. and sony’s ps4 sleep mode- yeah, probably something like that too.

    Honestly, it’s time to just make a real official announcement regarding this stuff. The longer you wait the worse it’s gonna be. I honestly think I’m not going to buy a PS4 or the new Xbox. I’ll probably put the money toward a beefier gaming pc, even though you’re already working on ruining that with Windows 8…

        Fact is I have been a loyal fan idiot. I only owned an Xbox and a Xbox 360.. I wont be forced to pay for ALL new games nor will I be forced to be online to play a game. You sir are an idiot if you let companies tell you when and how to play games that YOU paid for from another developer. Nor should I have to pay for borowing a game that someone else already PAID for.. Thats like telling me I can by something but when I am tired of it I cant resell it to someone else for them to enjoy. Bad business and I have no desire to support such a arrogant company.

    Gamers are fed up with the stupid decision of you guys.

    Even if you say otherwise, the majority of people will not believe you, you fucked gamers this gen by going all media hub and not caring for your main audience, the one that put you where you are…the gamers.

      Xbox was amazing from 2005 up until early 2009, after that it completely went downhill, poor exclusives, messed up Ad infected dashboard, Kinect, Apps. Sad to see a once great console go downhill. Don Mattrick and that moron Kudo are to blame, oh and so is Major Nelson too.

        Were are all the games Larry. So the new Xbox is going to be a DRM constant online entertainment hub with poor 1st party support, the same copy and paste exclusives, Gold subscriptions (which will probably be need to play all games), no used games, Kinect 2.0, poorly designed dashboard which is plaqued with Adverts. The New Xbox really sounds like a winner eh!. Roll on the PS4 which is going to wipe out the New Xbox.

      Major’s not a joke, he’s a cool guy, it’s the people upstairs that handle all of the moronic decisions that you should direct your insults towards.

      He doesn’t HAVE to have a blog and watch himself get flamed by half the internet but he does anyway. He does a pretty good job of informing everybody what’s what in Xbox Land too.
