“Xbox, record that.”

One of the most exciting features coming to Xbox One is the ability to record your most exciting, impressive, or just plain awesome-looking gaming accomplishments so that you can relive them over and over.

But how do you share those memorable gameplay moments in front of everyone else’s eyeballs? The answer is SkyDrive. Save and edit your clips, then upload to the cloud via SkyDrive on Xbox One.

The best part is, once these clips are in the cloud, you can share them however you like, without any restrictions or limitations.

Yah I’m wondering if they will upgrade peoples skydrive accounts at all? I have been a member forever and never got that “upgrade” thing and am still only stuck with 7gb. Not a huge deal but I can’t find any info on it at all since they keep tossing the “25gb skydrive” wording around.

That free 25 GB upgrade offer has already expired and was limited to “active SkyDrive account holders who had at least one file in their account on or before April 21, 2012”. They also made it so that you had to do the upgrade manually through a link in your SkyDrive account.

Getting a little worried about the length of that Kinect cable. It’s not going to reach from my TV to my AV stack. Major, can you tell us if Kinect will support active repeater extension cords, or would that introduce power or latency issues? Are there going to be any available at or near launch? Or am I really going to have to go out and buy a pair of 12′ HDMI cables just to connect the Xbox One to everything else?

    • Maxx Delusional

I have this worry as well. I have a projector, so all of my AV equipment is on the other side of the room from my TV. Currently I have a USB extension cable and it works for current gen Kinect, but from what I have been reading, the new Kinect has a proprietary connection.

      Like

      • Nick Peck

Well, they built it for what 99% of people have considered as a “normal” setup. I’m sure at some point you can buy a cable extender (probably not made by MS) but you will probably have to wait awhile🙂

Nice setup though but when you need extra long cables you are at a manu’s mercy. Good luck though, hope you guys can find a solution rather quickly.

        Like

      • bombfrog

You can add my name to this list too, I have no AV equipment under my TV, it’s all in a cupboard at the back of the room. I pre-ordered my Xbox One when they first became available but if I can’t find a solution then it’s going straight back to Amazon, which would be a shame as I’ve been a fan since the (actual) Xbox 1.

Pretty unrealistic of you to be honest, no new product will have what you guys are expecting day one. Because you guys chose to have a “different” setup is no companies fault lol. You should have known going with a setup like this that this would be an issue for some / many products.

All of you guys will just have to wait and see if some third party company decides to make cable extensions for the Kinect (if a standard cable wont work right off the bat). Good luck in any case.

I’m afraid you’re wrong Nick, I have owned pretty much every popular console ever released, including Atart 2600, Sega Master System, Megadrive (Genesis), Commodore 64, Amiga, Spectrum ZX81, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, PS4 etc. and every single one of them will work with my current setup (even the Wii and Wii U share the same wi-fi sensor bar).

The only console ever released that has to be placed within 9ft of your TV is the Xbox One, so it is Microsoft that is doing something out of the ordinary, not us.

        Like

      • bombfrog

I’d also love to know where you get this 1% statistic from? Most modern electronics work with Wi-fi so stashing it all away in a cupboard is becoming very common, at least amongst other people I know.

        Like

      • Nick Peck

That’s what I’m saying, because you know several people doesn’t mean 20 million people do it that would warrant companies to plan for this on every launch day. That’s what I’m saying. What you are doing is considered “exotic” and not “standard” which is what most companies accommodate.
They build these things with people using a standard entertainment center under the TV in mind. Granted the Wii U “has it at launch” due to it using the Wii’s stuff is an oddity really, but I’ll give you that one.

How dare you forget the DC?? I loved that system! Also, what I’m getting at, is that everything you mentioned doesn’t have the long cables needed included correct? You have to buy said cables to extend them? That makes my point right there. Sure there are hobbyists out there that over the years got companies to build certain things “such as cable extenders for your needs” but again, you are at the mercy of some company making them first.

MS (or any of these companies) aren’t going to include a 90ft cable just because a few people MIGHT use it for a different type of setup. I’m not arguing with you, but rather just stating that your setup, no matter how common to you is still “not standard” to big companies pushing out products. That is why you have specialty companies that make stuff like this so that it works for your particular needs.

      • bombfrog

“Also, what I’m getting at, is that everything you mentioned doesn’t have the long cables needed included correct? You have to buy said cables to extend them?”

Ah, that’s where I think the confusion lies, I think, I haven’t had to extend any proprietary cables or buy any extra, I just use the supplied cables and have my consoles plugged into a switch box which then has a single very long HDMI cable which goes to the TV.

Admittedly I can’t do this with the older consoles any more but I could do that too with an older switch box and a very long scart/component cable. The only thing I’d struggle to get working is the NES light gun so I’d have to forego playing Duck Hunt……

        Like

      • WARLORD

Lets put it like this… The longer the cable the more there is a chance to lose data….. With USB cables, you start to lose data at about 16 feet… So maybe its only 9 feet to insure a good data transfer rate.

        Like

      • Nick Peck

Ahh you have a switch box which then runs back. OOOOKKK now that makes more sense lol. I was going to say, none of those systems came with very long cables either so I wasn’t sure what you meant.

Ok I get how you are doing it now (which is what I kind of figured but since it wasn’t mentioned…. yah). Ok. Well yah man, not sure what to tell you. I’m sure the cable will be made or whatever at some point for the new Kinect, unless someone figures out how to get it with something already out.

Ahhh Duck hunt, what a classic lol.

The Wii has been out for how long? You won’t see a ton of “custom” cabling and the like right off the bat for a brand new product. Those wireless sensor bars weren’t out day one for the wii either. Seriously, out of hundreds of millions of people buying these things (all systems), people with these types of setups are well below 1%.

Again, stuff will come out at some point when a manu see’s the need / demand for such products.

We’re not saying that MS should provide a 50′ cable out of the box. All I’m saying is that I’d like to see a clear statement from MS on whether Kinect 2.0 supports either extended length cables or active repeaters or not. Knowing one way or the other will help me decide if I have to find a way to redo my living room layout or find a compromise solution. It’s the not knowing that’s annoying.

It doesn’t need to record everything for it to achieve this. It just needs to keep a buffer of the last few minutes, then when you say “record that” it captures the buffer and writes it to memory.

Because it’s not always the best tool for the job ?

Most of the time my friends specifically asks me to email them something, so they can never save it, and keep it in their cluttered gmail inbox forever.

Plus, it’s faster. With the current method I need to upload, go to the Skydrive app and share. With direct email, I can do the same but with only one step. (Theoretically, as it’s a non existing feature🙂 )

        Like

      • Juan Romero

But then you’re relying on your friends inbox to not bounce the email, rendering your upload useless, to which you would end up downloading the email again. Or if it does go through, your friend will then need to download that email himself.

On SkyDrive/Google Drive/Whatever, you can just select the file of your choice, click Share, Click Email, then send. GMail even includes a nice Google Drive icon next to its attachment button to make the process easier.

What are you talking about ? Since when Xbox 1 uploads to Google Drive ? I love Skydrive, but no one I know uses it. All of my friends are on Google Drive (yeah, I know.. I must switch friends).

Also, I will never in my life upload and share a video without the other party specifically asks me to send them a specific clip. I hate sharing***. I don’t want to clog my Skydrive with redundant files I will never watch. So I’m not “relying on their inbox”, I send them what they asked me, and delete it. It’s their files, not mine. Why should I store it on my expensive storage plan ?🙂

The share feature is nice for people who are into sharing. At most, I find a need to share something privately with a specific person for a very short period of time.

Having said that, it’s still a very cool and useful feature.

Forza, Killer Instinct, and Dead Rising are a decent start, as far as launch titles usually go, but it seems that both next gen consoles were rushed with incomplete OS’s and weak games and we’ll be waiting six months to a year for them to really start realizing their potential. Go play on your PC then? Why even bother with console gaming forums?

No, that’s for streaming. For uploading videos, it only does Facebook. Ugh.

In 2014 xbox can live stream to twitch for as long as you want. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame.

Does X1 stream in 720p or 1080p on Twitch? I know PS4 only streams in 720p.

i thinks its 720p as there no real need for 1080p for streaming plus you would need an upload speed of about 12mb.

My upload speed is about 20-30mbps which should be enough for 1080p streaming. Funny thing is my laptop is so old and full that I’m unable to watch 1080p videos due to my laptop not being able to handle it. Got the download speed to watch in 1080p just not the computer lol.

Compatability is also another reason for supporting 720p streaming over 1080p far more devices especially tablets can run 720p with a better viewing experience than 1080p, my pc is capable of 1080p and i have the speed but i still choose 720p i find it more stable.

PS3 games beating PS4 games. Don’t you just love it.

Even that Pinball arcade game beat most PS4 games.

Yes, because they are trying to make the savedgames from the 360 transfer to xbox one

If that is important to you I suggest you go play, if they boot, with the PS4.
