Game Description: Chariot is a humorous, physics-based couch co-op platformer in which a brave Princess and her Fiancé carry a funeral wagon through ancient caves, fending off swarms of looters while amassing riches, to bury the King’s remains in a worthy, gold-filled tomb. If only his majesty would keep quiet… The chariot’s large wheels and long tethers allow the heroes to reach higher ground, swing across chasms and perform all sorts of impressive maneuvers. Extract riches from the very walls of the caves in multiple environments, and make your way to the exit by avoiding – or beating back – greedy looters as they attempt to steal your hard-earned loot! With skill-testing coordination mechanics and thrilling physics-based stunts required, Chariot will definitely please couch co-op enthusiasts as teamwork and cooperation unlock new possibilities.

Purchase Chariot from the Xbox Games Store

Note:  Chariot will debut on Xbox One as a free download as part of October’s Games with Gold.

Here’s a note from Chariot’s developer, Frima:

Grab a seat with a gaming pal and prepare to laugh a lot as you’ll work together to find the king’s final resting place and collect precious gems. High-Fives will be in order.

On behalf of the entire team, we hope you have as much fun playing Chariot as we do.

Cool – Will at least give it 5-10 min of my time. Also for those who have a 360 – Battlefield BC 2 AND Shadowrun are both free as well.

Certainly are. It’s funny to see all the Ferraris melting in the Crack Of Doom, and the damage left in fenders by orc hammer strikes looks very convincing.

8 vs 8 multplayer with bots, 4 class, lots of weapons, magic and Tech with a few maps.
People are just crazy mad because it’s the a RPG like the first one.

Not to mention cross platform with the PC version.

Syndicate got similar grief for being a FPS inspired by the original turn based strategy game, as did XCOM: The Bureau.

Didn’t care much about Syndicate being a FPS, what killed any hope for me was the terrible lens flare, can’t see anything properly.

      • Michael Burden

I can agree on that point – Starbreeze got a little carried away with the lens flare in trying to achieve a certain look. Game had great co-op modes and did capture some of the elements of the original with the upgrades, but they should have spent just a little more time getting the graphics right.

got both Dust and Spelunky for 2$ or so each, even MS didn’t do that.

No, they just gave away Dust for free a few months back (May) in Games with Gold on the 360.

To be fair for PS3 they also get Arkham Asylum, so it’s not that bad, but definitely doesn’t compare to this week’s GWG.

Why is this not tagged as marketplace?! And same question for the last games with gold announcement blog post. I am following the marketplace RSS feed and missed both of these announcements because they were not tagged consistently like past games with gold announcements.

This is a nice game and one of the few new couch coop games. Great! Unfortunately it also highlights again a major oversight of the XBO compared to the 360 … the 2nd player does not get any achievements despite you play and solve this together. This was already a very frustrating thing when playing Rayman with my girlfriend. I can’t remember any local coop game on the 360 not giving achievements to the 2nd player, so I suppose its a limitation of the XBO. Please fix this!

EDF 2025 doesn’t give anything to the second player on 360, there’s a few other games that does that. XBLA games and budget game tend to forget the second player, indies on xbone is just following this trend.

There are several that do this – the Skylanders games immediately come to mind. Rayman was also the same on the 360. There are a few more I can’t think of at the moment, most of them being children’s games.

It isn’t the One, it is the developers who programmed the game.

I also asked the developers about this, let’s see if and what they reply. As stated below, as there is still not a single game on the One that gives achievements to the secondary player, I suppose there is also a platform limitation about this. Of course I don’t know it, but anyhow, I think it’s time there is a focus on this. And if the outcome is only that developers are more encouraged to pay attention to this.

I’m very confident that is not the case. Though I can’t verify it at this time (don’t own them yet), I believe the Lego games on the One give achievements to both players. I’m also pretty sure Minecraft also gives achievements to the second player – this I can check when I get home. Disney Infinity 2.0 is another one I am sure has achievements for both player – another one I can check. Not to mention sports titles, Killer Instinct, Peggle 2, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Diablo III to name a few. I’ve never seen anything on the achievement sites I frequent that mention problems with 2nd player achievements other than the ones you and I mentioned (Rayman, Skylanders), which have the same issue on the 360.

But it isn’t the console design that is preventing the second player achievements, it is the way the developers programmed their game.

You are right. Totally forgot about that. So it should be possible. Maybe still (unnecessarily) complicated to do for the devs. I asked the Devs, and they said they are looking into it. I hope I hear back from them. But it’s an issue MS should definitely work together with Devs on.

My gf and I have found this very frustrating. We both love co-op games and we both love achievements. But it’s not fun for either of us when only one of us gets the cheevs even though we worked together to solve the puzzles. Sadly, this seems to be the norm for local only co-op games on Xbox One, so we end up going back to playing Diablo over XBL.

Never Alone is another gorgeous upcoming indie local co-op puzzle platformer. I met the producer at PAX and asked if both players would get achievements and he told me no, and implied that it was too difficult/expensive to implement that.

Maybe some work needs to be done on the platform side to make it easier for developers to make this happen.

As for Chariot, my partner and I will probably just end up playing it alone, as we did Rayman and Guacamelee.

Yes, can totally sign that. It really kills the fun if either me or my gf gets achievements, but not both of us.

I just don’t get the fun of this game. Got to download it for free with Gold, played the first level. Spent it dragging around a corpse. It just felt like a burden/chore to keep pushing/pulling this thing around instead of exploring or just running through the platformer finding hidden treasure, collecting coins/gems, beating enemies……..you know, all the things that make a platformer game enjoyable

Best way to describe this game is it felt like a Super Mario clone where you had Luigi chained to your ankle. Not fun
