Update: I’ve gotten a bunch of questions about the Sunset Overdrive Special Edition console, as folks are having a hard time finding them. This particularly bundle is a one-time run, so if you are looking to pick one up, then I wouldn’t wait too long!

    I really like the box cover art for the Sunset Overdrive Xbox One Bundle. Curious to see what holiday sales will be like, and if even more deals will be available during the holiday shopping season.

    I think the 1TB move is a good direction, considering the Xbox Games with Gold will fill up 500 GB hard drives (along with all of the updates – not just for the Xbox One – but for many games as well).

      Oh yeah trust me, if you’re a regular gamer the 500 gb will be eaten up in no time. I had to get an external drive about 5 months ago.. but since then I’ve been fine.

        I use my Xbox One for just a few games, 500 is enough for MMC, Diablo 3, and some other coop games. You can fit a lot of small indie games in there. Don’t forget you can install games to an external hard drive using your One’s USB3 port, so if you do run out of room expansion is always an option. My PC has 1TB. A year from now when games start to drop in price, maybe.

    I went to the MS store today to pick up my PRE-ORDERED Xbox One, and they didn’t have it! They just sold it to someone else instead of holding on to it for me. Why did I bother paying for it in advance? I’m never buying anything from the MS store again.

      If $50 was the break point for you, I promise you it would be equally good either way. It competes with PC gaming at twice the cost at $400, and so far my Xbox One has been plug & play.

      There are big quality of life improvements over 360. Only 1 Gold account is needed and actual profiles can be used as “guests” online. Those profiles can have their own friends and everything, and even play when the Gold account isn’t playing. When both users are logged in the Xbox goes “for name” before messages and stuff, and pops up with our gamertag’s icon.

      You can log into and out of the profiles really fast and easy, and the social interface usually has 10 second delays tops, even with huge friends lists. Text messages (wireless usb keyboard: $10) form conversation chains like on a phone.

      One thing that surprised me was the integrated party functionality. Much like how STEAM works, actually. You can have people in a VOIP lobby and your friends can just join that any time; or you can invite them to both the chat and game. For example playing Destiny we had a couple more experienced guys giving us pointers while the other 6 chatted it up and did the challenging (and boy was it) content. It effectively means every game has VOIP even if the game didn’t include it.

      Now for the cons:

      1.) Still no ability to pull media from a Windows PC remotely. You can stream to it, and there are workarounds involving apps to remotely control the PC “pushing” the media; but I believe that’s planned.

      2.) Can’t play MP3’s using the media app while a game is being played. This would be nice for stuff like halo-style multiplayer games that don’t have music. However, the list of supported filetypes is much more inclusive than the 360’s was, and the media player does work. They’re calling it a beta, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened someday.

      3.) The controllers are sweet once you get used to them- knurled thumb-sticks are the bust thing to happen to thumb sticks since their invention and feel AMAZING, but frankly they suck the batteries down. You’ll eventually want a $20 play and charge kit off-brand or otherwise.

      Overall, I didn’t listen to the marketing and I’m glad I stuck with an Xbox, it’s a snappy system and the games run great; much better than I expected- and I’m a PC gamer. I would describe Dead Rising 3’s framerate “problems” as “detectable” … when you run over literally 40-50+ zombies in a vehicle and it sends every one into flying physics gibs. Capcom’s never been a pinnacle of hardware utilization, so if that’s the low point things are about to shine.

    People – I really recommend the AC Unity Bundle only b/c it has Kinect in it. $450 for an X1, AC Unity, Black Flag and Kinect is awesome.

    I know Kinect gets bashed, and not a lot of games to justify the extra $100, but from a navigation standpoint it is great.

    Not to mention, we had a friend show up as a giant ‘Ted’ to our Halloween party and watching him play Dance Central with the full costume on was epic.

      Kinect is great if you plan on using the TV features. It’s also pretty cool how all your components (TV, receiver, Xbox, & Cable box) can be powered on or off via Kinect, with or without voice commands. (Kinect is needed for these features as it’s where the IR sensor is). The new OneGuide with Twitter integration has also been very fun.
