Sunset Overdrive Free for Xbox Live Gold Members this Saturday

Update as of 11, November @ 7:25p ET/4:25 PT:

  • It is only working in console right now. Xbox.com still shows it as “not available.”
  • We are unlocking the standard edition of Sunset Overdrive. You will still see a purchase price for the Day One Edition and Deluxe edition.
  • The game is showing up for free in the Gold Lounge, so that’s probably the fastest to find it.
On the Xbox One Home Screen, clicking in the lower right slot that promotes Gold discounts will show the free Sunset offer.

Free weekend is now over! But Gold members get a 15% discount on the Day One Edition & Deluxe editions of @SunsetOverdrive now through Mon, Nov 24 midnight PT (2/2)

*******************************************
To celebrate the first anniversary of Xbox One’s launch, Microsoft and Insomniac Games are inviting all Xbox Live Gold members to a taste of the Awesomepocalypse.

Beginning Saturday, November 22nd at 12.01 Eastern Time, Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One will get to play Sunset Overdrive for free for 24 hours. This is the full game; players will earn achievements and be able to save how far they progress during that 24 hour span. If you decide to purchase the game at a later point, you will be able to start again right where you left off.

Sunset Overdrive’s 8-player cooperative multiplayer experience, Chaos Squad, will also be available for everyone tomorrow. Please note: Chaos Squad must be unlocked by playing a certain amount into the campaign.

After the weekend, the Insomniac Games All-Star team will showcase several new weapons that will be available soon. Tune into the Xbox Twitch channel on Monday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time to see what’s on the way.

Xbox support agents prepare yourself to take calls from customers that don’t understand why they were able to get the game one day and then the next day they can’t play it. LOL

Not going to bother. Ms download servers in the UK are so slow. Taken 2 days to download gta v. Almost 3 days to download mcc. 24 hours for sunset to download and for me to be in a position to play is very unlikely going to happen.

3 days to download MCC, mine took 8 hours including the day one 15GB patch.

What internet speeds do you have? I downloaded Sunset in just under an hour and I’m from the UK.

Pointless for me as by the time i woke up i had already lost 10 hours, and by the time the 23 gigs downloads it will be to late. For us with slower connection a pre download would of be great or at least 48 hours to try. Im not complaining as it is a great concept to trial games but in this case for me i can’t try.

On the console it states the game is available as part of the “gold weekend” last time i checked a weekend is 2 days not 24 hours so have they changed the time limit? as this would help those with slower connection to try.

First of all, I want to say thank you to Microsoft for the free weekend. with that being said, this game is really awful. I don’t like being forced to play a certain way (keep jumping and sliding to build up amp), the voice acting is bad, the story is weak and overall the game just isn’t fun. Its now extremely obvious why the bundled this game with the coveted white Xbox.

The download is kicking my butt right now. I totally forgot the xbox one isn’t like the 360 where it will stay on to finish a download before shutting off. I just turned my screen off to to go bed and woke up to only 10% closer download.

Also it said “ready to play” at 20%, but it just took me to an Overdrive install screen instead. At what percentage is it actually “ready to play?”

Give it 5 minutes on that screen then you can play two missions then you have to wait for it to fully complete.

I guess this excludes the gold month trial. It’s not giving me a option to download

Can’t find where to d/l this. Pretty frustrating… no clue how to get to “Gold Lounge”. The typical ad to get to it isn’t on my dashboard.

Edit: It finally magically appeared on the dashboard. Wonder if MS are throttling access to it…

It’s really not worth the wait. I got it on release and now have to force myself to play it. It becomes very tedious very quickly. Why would they put out a free version now? Maybe because people are losing interest in it rapidly. I see there’s also a demo version of Destiny too. Probably in the same boat as SO.

Like many others I jumped on this when I learned about it, regrettably many of us globally only have slow download rates, so the game took 26 hours to DL and now they expect me to actually purchase it with a small discount, can’t even play the damn thing and it takes up 25G of space on our small 500G HDD’s. Not what its made out to be. Thank God I still have my Xbox 360 and Left 4 Dead – Totally disappointed with the XOne, had it since March and only just been able to start using its multi-media abilities missing until last update, now this fiasco. No wonder more people in Hong Kong are buying the PS4, not only was it launched late, but seems many believe PS4 is superior in Asia – would like to hear what others think if based in Asia Pac?

You don’t like your X1 because your download speeds are slow? You haven’t purchased an external HDD yet? AND you want to move to Hong Kong? Well as they say here. Don’t let the door hit you in the rump on your way out. LATERZ!!

Difficult to move to Hong Kong as I live here and have done so for twenty years, so put a zip in it please unless you can contribute to the dialogue in a positive way.

OK…well then I’m POSITIVE that you complain about things that have nothing to do with your console. STFU

What you mean that it was sold as a media centre, that I was an early adopter in Asia and yet full networking multimedia capability only available with last update?
I own three Xbox360’s, love Xbox Live and am disappointed with the XBone, this weekends fiasco has done little to change my opinion and the sales of Xbone compared to PS4 kinda prove my point with many Xbox360 owners moving to Sony. Can’t argue with the market can we!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must be on drugs, in the rural outposts of HK broadband speeds are slow,
slower than the UK in fact at about 2.8MB if lucky. I can DL from
Bittorrent at decent speeds when compared to MS Server, something to do
with a seedbox and can DL pireted Xbox One and Xbox 360 games in mins
before transfering – don’t bother though as like my Xbox Live. You
should live in bloody Asia mate and then do some comparisions. As for
drugs, used to drop loads, although at nearly 50 not a bloody good idea
now. And I can moan as been in IT-related work for more than 30 years.
Now, what’s your opinion on HALO MCC, or is that just another issue to
be ignored in your lourding over the XBone. I may be a Apple user, but
still think many Apple products suck as not a fandroid. Xbox One has
issues, yes MS are working on it, but really the games on offer thus far
and lack of any meaningful service in Asia sucks – these are facts, not
bloody gripes. Oh, and as for externals, have a 2T 2.5 on by X360,
which presently outperforms the Xbone in so many ways its positively
hilarious and to think I paid US$550 originally for day one launch.

Sony has always dominated that region along with Nintendo every generation and this one is no different. Even if MS had released something that blew everything else out of the water they still would only make a tiny impact.

Kinda disappointed in this game, I think they took too long to release it and now we’ve seen it all before and better (DR3 for example!), it was just a bunch of childish and meaningless graphical and audio (literal) noise trying it’s hardest to be irreverent and rebellious whilst simply succeeding in being repetitive and irrelevant! Just my opinion but I do find it hard to see why people are impressed with it.

Totally disagree. I just beat it last week and found it to be one of the best games this year. I had a blast with it. Love the movement, the combat , the awesome crazy weapons, the colorful way in which the game was made, how perfectly polished it was, the customization.. all of it. Oh and the coop was a great addition as well. So much fun. And hilarious

Even though I had a small number of low level weapons the co op is what persuaded me to buy it when it was offered at 20% off digitally.

24 hour demo, I fell in love. 20% discount? I started thinking about serious commitment. However, finding all those rewards points in my account from last month?!? Well, then I put a ring on it! This is a seriously fun game and you finally got me. Thanks for the incentives.
