Xbox 360 Owners: Start building your Xbox One Game Library for free

Starting today, Xbox Live Gold Members who don’t have an Xbox One yet can start building their library of Xbox One games directly from Xbox 360 by taking advantage of the Games With Gold program. You have always been able to do it this via the web and my monthly Games With Gold posts. But now, on your Xbox 360 console head to the special Games With Gold section from the link on the home page of the console and you can ‘purchase’ it there.

See the video above that will show you exactly how to do it. And don’t forget to grab your copy of Rayman Legends for Xbox One (along with Tomb Raider for Xbox 360.)

If you never “started” your 360 than why do you want the games? Seems you would never play them anyway. Just go to the web and add to your queue, it’s really not that hard. Quit being lazy.

Before I got my One I would do this thru the website. That’s probably the best way to go about this all in my opinion but good on Microsoft for making it slightly easier to get free stuff!

You can buy the 360 games via the website. Although 360 games on the website require a CC on file in order to buy them. I refuse to have a CC on file so I have to turn on my 360 at least twice a month. Would be nice if we could do it via the X1 as well or they remove the CC requirement for free products on the web.

Development resources (time/workers) for Xbox One. If people want free Xbox One games get an Xbox One, it has been over a year. The price has been right for awhile as well. Quit placating last gen and focus solely on this gen. Time to move on.

      • spideynut71

I want to believe you’re just trolling, but unfortunately it appears that you’re really just incredibly dense.
This IS about focusing on this gen…it’s all about X1 games, and making sure 360-only gamers know about this great incentive to jump to the X1. Last gen lasted waaaay too long, but not for nothing ; MS sold over 80 million 360s…and counting. Not only are they still supporting that platform, but the X1 is still a fledgling platform, with very little unique content to offer, thus far. MS knows there’s been plenty they’ve done wrong to keep people from making the jump to X1, so they have to plant seeds like this, to help bring more people into the fold. And I say this, as someone who bought both X1 AND PS4 on Day1….and have largely regretted both purchases, so far, because of the severe lack of quality, exclusive content. I’ve played about 90% of my games on my PC, since this gen started.

Planting a seed….that´s exactly the words. I think this is a great fature, of course i´m planning to buy an XBox One, just waiting for more library games and one special that makes me “romper el cochinito” and this is an excellent way to ensure i´m buying it whenever i decide it and still getting the most from the deals with gold program….Congratulations Xbox, this is what your consumers always wanted from your mark

      • BillyHoWCR

The point is to allow 360 owners to build their game collection up before making the investment in next Gen Hardware. It obviously is to ensure a collection of games is enticing the 360 owner into making that system upgraded… it is pure genius if you ask me.

Do they offer One games for free? I thought the games with gold free stuff on One was just available for use for a short period of time.

        Like

      • Jeremy Potts

Its free until you cancel your Xbox Live Gold subscription. Then you lose access to the free games on Xbox One until you renew it again. Its basically renting the One games and gifting the 360 games. But as long as you keep paying for gold the One games are rented does that make sence?. On 360 you keep them forever.

        Like

      • BillyHoWCR

Nope free games for XB1 are available for use as long as you have a Gold membership. And if you leave Gold and come back then they are still available for that account on XB1.

The point here is that they are only available for a short time to Que up or download to your account. If you don’t Que them up or download them then you won’t have access to them after that time period given. And MANY of us 360 users were not aware we could even Que up XB1 games even if we did not have an XB1 yet.

So starting this month (seeing I found out only by seeing this post) I will have a bunch of FREE games waiting for me to play them when I do finally choose to upgrade to XB1. A definite plus for keeping my GOLD active and not thinking of switching to another platform that (for me) won’t give that long list of available titles upon purchase.

So it doesn’t force you to sign up a credit card on the web store like it always did with 360 games? Because if it still does, nothing has changed then.

    • Stoneysilence

The web store doesn’t require a CC for X1 games but 360 games do. I don’t know why the two are different. Before I got my X1 that is how I bought the Gold games (via web).

        360 = PowerPC, One = x86.
Completely different architectures and instruction sets.

Also 360 has 3 CPU cores + GPU and eDRAM on GPU.

By no means is emulating 360 an easy task.

        Like

      • Marco Mattei

Not really… you know, the Xbox 360 was Power-PC Architecture, the Xbox one is x86. So you’d have to emulate the games and the One is not powerfull enough for this, as is the PS4 not powerfull enough to emulate PS3 games. Yes, they could do it with a streaming service, but honestly, who would want that?

I don’t have the cash yet to jump to the one, and I’m going to probably wait for the slim version with a 1 TB HDD, and I know that wait it’s going to be a looong wait lol. Probably if there’s a nice bundle with a 1TB I could make the effort to get the income to buy it.

I’ve been on it every month and am looking forward to having a small library of games available once I do purchase (or get gifted to me) an Xbox One.
