First Wave of Xbox One April System Updates Now in Preview

This month, we’re rolling out updates to our Xbox One Preview program members in two waves, with the first set coming today and more to come next week. Check out the list below for features in this first April system update preview that is starting to roll out this afternoon:

  • Party chat improvements – Party chat is being improved with troubleshooting guidance for Xbox One owners. The Party App will help you get your microphone enabled and show you when privacy settings or networking issues are blocking communication with particular party members.
  •  Game hub links – Members can more easily discover game hub content from activity feed items. You’ll see activity feed items when any of your friends follow a game, and you’ll also be able to get back to a game’s hub from activity feed posts related to the game – including feed items about the game’s achievements, game clips and screenshots. Finally, we’ve added a link to game hubs from the game’s page in the achievements app.
  •  Achievement notifications – With this preview release, you’ll also see the achievement’s description in the notification so you know what you did to earn this achievement without having to open the achievements app. If you do choose to open up the notification to see the achievement details, we’ve also made some performance improvements to make loading the achievements app from a notification faster.

Stay tuned next week for the second wave with even more great features coming to Xbox One Preview program members. As always, thanks for your feedback.

If your Kinect randomly disconnects its the Kinect not the software. I had this problem with mine and would randomly just turn off or reboot. Microsoft replaced it and I have had zero issues since.

I know, but I’m not about to pay another 70 or 80 bux out of warranty for something that should last way longer than a year. There seems to be a consistent amount of people with the same issue. Kinect classic has been fine for several years now. :

The only lossless file type that is supported at the moment is WMA Lossless.I don’t know a single person who uses that file format for lossless audio,so I think they should add support for more file types.

At the moment the only way I can listen to lossless audio on my Xbox is to make a copy of all my audio files into a format that the Xbox reads.Lossless audio files are large files,so making a copy of all of them is not really a solution.

Unless you meant what the hell is lossless audio?Basically,it’s high definition audio.Anyone who buys a surround sound system for music is wasting their money if they’re only going to play mp3s through it.

“Chat is turned off for your Kinect … Go to Kinect settings”

Couldn’t you just add an option at the bottom to “Mute Kinect” and allow it to toggle right from this menu?

My Kinect is just permanently muted because it’s too much hassle to keep going into the settings to turn it on and off.

      • Pete

Yes, of course, because it takes so much energy to click a few buttons.

I guess if you needed milk you’d walk all the way to the big supermarket instead of getting a bottle from the little shop down the road as well. It’d be lazy to use the convenient option.

It’s called good and efficient user interface design. Have you never had the following…

Party invite, join from the pop-up but can’t speak because Kinect is muted and you’ve tidied the headset away. If the Kinect option were there you could at least acknowledge your presence and say “Hi”.

Skype call, answer the call, hand gesture your caller to indicate that Kinect is off and you’re going to have to temporarily cut them off while you exit Skype and go to settings to enable it. Again a direct option allows you to quickly enable Kinect and get on with the call.

I have the same issue with the Power Options. My console has a tendency to lock up or break NAT if I leave it in “Instant On” so I have to keep it in permanent “Power Save” or regularly visit settings with the odd “hard reboot” when it crashes. If, like PS4, they simply had both options on the pop-up shutdown menu I could use the most appropriate on the fly, even, given the nature of how it happens, when it crashes!

Even if that were not the case I’d prefer to use Instant On if I know I’ll be back to the console soon and Power Save when I know I won’t but I’m not going into settings every time to make that choice. My PS4 gives me this small flexibility and it works very well!

Settings are there so you can set the console up the way you want and should be used rarely. Anything that requires regular access should be more easily accessible.

How is it stupid? Many games don’t let you remap controls. Black flag maps the spyglass to the bumper. DR3 puts spring there. Very uncomfortable. If you are lucky you cna change which trigger shoots but most games stick you with illogical control schemes.

You can store it on One Drive and play it through Xbox Music, no need to take up more room on the Xbox hard drive. I took my entire music library on my computer and uploaded it to my One Drive, now I can listen too all my music on the Xbox Music app, once that can play in the background I’ll be all set. Also DOES NOT require you to pay the Xbox music pass fee.

I’m looking forward to see the improvements. I’m hoping the Achievement notification has simply replaced the the “Press whatever to see more details” message with the Achievement info now. Otherwise there’d now be three different things going on one after another and it’d just be an even longer thing. I love getting Achievements but that “more details” thing was always unnecessary.

It shows all three messages and they all go by faster. Too fast. They should get rid of the more details part so there’s more time to read the description.

I don’t care about background music anymore, due to it not having Last.FM scrobbling anyway (and due to my purchase of a Jambox Mini from the Microsoft Store a few months ago). What I DO care about is the upcoming streaming to the Windows 10 app. That is going to be SO awesome.

A heavy performance centric update would really be nice.
I feel that with each subsequent update the whole system just got bogged down so much that I have to hard reset it almost every day because it either starts slowing down into a crawl or flat out freeze on me.

Since the February-March update I can’t even quit to Home screen anymore after playing like half an hour, UI just stops responding (both to Kinect or button presses). And every time I unsnap an App the box outlines for it just stay on a screen for another 5 minutes (that’s besides the Snapping being incredibly slow and awkward in a first place).

Why not focus on optimising the system and Ui performance, you know, once in a while at least.

At this point , it feels more like using my 10 year old laptop than a console.

It doesn’t state what fixes it has. I’d love to see some fixes for the issue that when resuming from standby you can’t run no apps or games and need to hard-reboot your system.
And that Kinect sometimes seems to disconnect even though i haven’t touched any cables or settings.
Or when your console will hang in dashboard for a moment and then do all the buttonpresses you did from that moment on.
Or where people with closed-NAT couldn’t see why they couldn’t connect with others ingame (not specifically in a party).
Or that the dashboard and apps haven’t really gotten quicker lately. Sure, party and friends are faster, but still lack caching and there is a delay between the button presses and what actually happens on the screen. Do some performance updates

Though i still feel that you guys should try and find another solution for the NAT/Port Forwarding. Its weird that in 2015 you still need to setup a device in your network properly for it to work online. I know that many people can’t be bothered or even know about this issue. And thus blame the console and not their local network or ISP.
Getting IPv6 support would be nice but i still feel that we shouldn’t be opening/forwarding ports at all these days but things should work out automatically.

And lastly games like BFH need to be able to restrict players from entering different regions by default. People with high-pings and packet-loss shouldn’t be having advantages when playing online. I don’t mind some smoothing, but BFH (and other shooters in the past like BF4, CODAW and Titanfall) suffer from the fact that you guys set odd requirements for customer connections. Every shooter i play has this issue. People join various regions and when they do they have lots of advantages. Taking way less damage, killing people with single bullets, movement that doesn’t fit their animations and killing people long after they are behind cover. Its mainly because servers have a low tickrate and because you guys find a ping of 150 average. For lots of online games this doesn’t matter, but some games require lots of packages for proper online play.
People who don’t have their network and connection worked out are ruining it for the rest of us. Simple things like sticking to regions by default (i don’t mind overriding but it should be set by default) and not showing pings as numbers is ridiculous. Laggers never look at their own hardware and are never told that something is wrong. They arent pointed to the fact that they need to change stuff so my game and the ones my mates are in, suffer big time.
