technically no its not truly free to play on the xbox one, you still need a gold account to play it. if you don’t have a gold account Microsoft will constantly interrupt your game (about every 15-20 seconds) saying you need a gold account to play. so you do need to pay someone to play this game without disruption. otherwise its best to play it on a PC with and xbox controller, assuming that’s a reason your playing on a console in the first place.

Is this pay to win or pay to play? I’m interested but have never been an MMO sort of guy.

I don’t think you could classify it as either. You get no in game advantages by spending money from what I understand, and it cost nothing to play all the content. Once I get home from work I’ll be putting some time into this (finally). It will definitely not cost you anything to try it out other than bandwidth and the time to download it.

Interesting. Always been wary of f2p games and even though I heard good things about the likes of Warframe. Think its time to jump in and sink some time in with friends.

I’ll hook up with you sometime (as I do have you on my friends list) when we are on the same schedule and we’ll knock out a few dungeons. What I played during the Beta I liked and should definitely hold me over until The Elder Scrolls Online releases in June.

You should definitely give Warframe a try, it’s amazing, I’m already at nearly 1000 hours and play practically nothing else (I did buy Destiny but I’m guessing i have less than 10 hours total gameplay on it!). Neverwinter looks cool too (now level 5!) although I’m still playing Warframe whenever I get any gaming
        time!

super predatory cash shop.. one could argue that theres nothing to win, but it is really as close to pay to win as it gets without straight up selling fully upgraded weapons. id say its “free to suffer through”.

Yeah I hate the language settings on the XB1, you should NEVER have to select the language based on your geographical location, I live in Mexico and speak almost perfect Spanish but I still want all my content and Kinect speech recognition in English but certain things just don’t work because it “knows” I’m not physically in the USA.

Got this today at 15.01 which I find really strange. That aside I must say I’ve played Defiance360 DestinyX1 as ‘MMO’s’ on console and a few others but this trumps anything I’ve played so far, I’m not too far in but it is a very convenient game for gameplay and brings me back to my WoW days, one problem I found I navigating the 100’s of menu screens but that will come with time. I always say if a f2p game gives me what I expect from a game that retails for €60-€75 then overtime I’ll probably spend that in microtransactions. I expect this to be one of my favourite games this year, hope it’s all I expect it to be!

    • Nick Peck

That’s the same mentality I have towards f2p games. Yah I’m enjoying it as well, only like 10 lvls in so far but it’s not bad for what it is.

      Like

      • STIFFLER

Exactly. I end up feeling the obligation to buy a few things if I’m playing a F2P title for a while. At the end of the day, if you can do it and have a good time on a F2P then I say support the devs:)

I don’t know. I just see lots of people comment that games aren’t available in AU and that AU has weird restrictions on games.

      • Stray2616

It’s kind of both. Perfect World should have submitted it to the Australian rating board a lot earlier (something they don’t need to do for a PC MMO for some reason but do on console) and it would have passed in time. And the ratings board shouldn’t take so damn long to make a call on it.

        Like

    • Stray2616

It’s with the ratings board now. Either have to wait for a rating (could be as far away as the end of the month) or change your Xbox region to US, download it then switch back to Aus.

    Like

    • TenDM

I don’t think you can turn it off. It’s part of the free to play model. They want you to see those people getting the items so you’ll buy some keys and try to get the item too. It’ll be really frequent right now because a lot of new players are putting money in to get the item. Expect that to slow down over the next few days as more people either give up or get the item.
If the game is anything like the PC version it’ll take ever chance it gets to remind you that you can just put $10 in and skip whatever you’re doing. I really enjoyed it when it launched on the PC and I’m not usually against micro-transaction funded games, but they just wouldn’t shut up about buying Zen/AD. No matter what I brought I felt like I’d been ripped off and the game went right back to asking me for more money. It sucked the fun out of the game pretty quickly.
I’m really hoping they toned all that down for the XBOX release because there was a good game under it all.

Well don’t expect it to be like either one of those as the only thing common is the setting (Forgotten Realms/Neverwinter) and that part of the name. I played the beta and just started the actual game last night (though haven’t progressed further than I did in the beta yet) and it isn’t bad. It is definitely worth a shot if you have any interest and doesn’t cost you anything other than the bandwidth and time to download it.

This is actually really fun and well made though the graphics are a little simplistic. But the difficulty is laughable after what I’ve been playing lately (D3 hardcore, DA:I on Nightmare, Bloodborne, etc). Still a nice causal RPG that’s almost relaxing and colorful. Not sure why the heck it needs to be an MMO though. It could have been a great solo action RPG in its own right.

    Like

    • Michael Burden

I’m enjoying it as well. But I bet the difficulty will ramp up once you start getting to dungeons that require a party. A lot of the content can be done solo, but there is also a lot requiring a party of adventurers which is why it is a MMO. We’ve just begun to scratch the surface of this game I feel.

Pretty fun game. If they can get the bugs out, I’ll throw them a bone and buy extra character slots, but for now, I’ll just enjoy my two characters. You’d think once grouped you’d be sent to the same server, and on more than one occasion me and my brother came out of a dungeon and even though grouped, got sent to different servers. Also a bit of lag and choppiness. I know it has only been out a few days and they gotta get the bugs out.
But, overall, this is a fun game, and worth playing. Hoping they fix some of the problems.

The only thing I have a real problem with is the over pricing of the zen currency and micro transactions. I’d love to buy and support with some cash but the cost is way too high to warrant it. I know other may have a different opinion but this is mine. I could easily spend $40 to $80 which would be the normal price for a game but it’s kind of highway robbery with the prices they have now. You barely get anything….Just my thoughts. Maybe I’m wrong and they only one who feels this way.
