Xbox One April System Update: Game Hub Links, What’s On and More Now Available

The April system update is rolling out today, bringing you another round of new features that will make your favorite Xbox One experiences even better. Whether you want easier access to game content, troubleshooting help with party chat or improved achievement notifications, we’ve got something for everyone this month.

Check out the full list of features rolling out below:

• Party chat improvements – Additional icons and notifications within the party chat experience to help you understand your connection and microphone status. The party app will help you get your microphone enabled and show you when privacy settings or networking issues are blocking communication with particular party members.

• Game hub links – You’ll see activity feed items when any of your friends follow a game, and you’ll also be able to get back to a game’s hub from activity feed posts related to the game – including feed items about the game’s achievements, game clips and screenshots.

• Achievement notifications – With this update, you’ll also see the achievement’s description in the notification so you know what you did to earn this achievement without having to open the achievements app.

• What’s On – The What’s On area is now available for Xbox One users in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. In it, you’ll find links to popular videos, games, movies, TV shows, game broadcasts and clips, along with Trending TV shows if you have configured OneGuide for your Xbox One console.

We are keeping voice messaging and dedicated servers for party chat in preview as we continue to fine-tune them based on feedback from preview program members.

We have more great features coming your way on Xbox One, so please continue to send us your feedback and stay tuned for more details.

Great features, but some basic ones, should have been on launch already!

The achievement description goes too fast in many instances. The party chat is NOT improved and voice messages are garbage and just useless. And I just don’t care about what’s on. Overall pretty unimportant update

So, did you read where the voice messages and party chat are still being tested? Go and submit feedback on the preview forums unless you are just trolling. The only improvements that have been released to public is diagnosing issues.

not trolling, yes I know it is still being tested, I am just letting people know where it stands and why it is not ready. Right now you can’t even send a message while in a party.

I like the achievement changes no doubt. The only major thing I care about is being able to download my movies/shows so I don’t have to stream them as much.

I agree 100%. I’m still waiting for the option to download to my hard drive, movies and tv shows so streaming isn’t a requirement. It’s this way on the xbox 360.

Bring Steam games to Xbox One

    • http://www.projectspark.com coip

Gross. Steam is a parasite. The better solution is to bring Xbox One to Windows 10, which they’re doing, with cross-play and cross-buy. Unify PC and console gaming in one, awesome platform: Xbox. Steam can suck on a rock.

Its coming but its not ready yet Phil Spencer has acknowledged this, my guess is it either comes around E3 or when Win 10 goes RTM,

      Like

      • Barney Dade

Glad to see he’s acknowledged it. This was one of the things which I would most like to see. Playing GTA I would be able to play the older radio stations from San Andreas or Vice City over the game or on Forza play the older games songs.

Though I guarantee they’ll make it so you can only use Xbox Music that that you’ve purchased through the app.

        Like

      • infekt_me

That makes zero sense especially since you can stream your own music from OneDrive at no cost. This isn’t Sony we are talking here, Microsoft knows the feature we want. If I can stream directly through Xbox music it’ll be a huge improvement over the x360 as you couldn’t from the app. It either needed to be plugged in from a USB drive or stream from my PC.

I’d rank the Top 3 Xbox One platformers as follows:
        1. Ori and the Blind Forest (9.7/10)
        2. Kalimba (9.5/10)
        3. Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (9.1/10)

Runners Up: Limbo (8.1/10), Valiant Hearts (8.0/10), Rayman Legends (7.9/10)

Ori, Kalimba, and Max are brilliant.

Having spent a lot of my Easter free time spent on PS4 ( due to the quality of March PS plus titles…….Abe , Valiant Hearts and non PS plus Bloodborne ) – I have to say that coming back to the XB1 interface is laggy and cumbersome .
PS4 , I could see all that my friends were up to and what they have earned trophy wise etc in a instant .

This is not a console fan war comment ( I am a grown man ) .
Simply saying at this precise moment in time , I feel that PS has their UI pretty much sorted – MS , maybe not so much .

Having said that , the XB1 is like a whole new beast compared to it’s Day One state it launched in .
Keep up the good work MS .

I agree the UI could be faster and snappier when compared to PS4. Overall I am happy with the amount of updates they are doing, it still feels like the Xbox UI is in beta though. The store also needs a major overhaul🙂 just my 2 cents.

The PS4 UI is spartan. Of course I’ll take some optimization on Xbox One to speed up performance, but I will not trade all the extra features that the Xbox One OS brings to the table for the feature-barren PS4’s.

I usually check mine on the TrueAchievements website, the viewer they use has a “Save as” option that will get you a local mp4 copy.

You can either view clips by Gamertag or by game and there are a few useful additional filters too.

These are cool features but what’s on sounds horrible. I don’t want to be tempted to spend more time in front of my xbox seeing what’s trending on the internet because I already waste enough time as it is, let alone have to scroll passed to tab everytime I want to get to the tabs on the other side of the home.

Thanks a lot, MS – you’re making it more and more difficult to complain about my Xbox One🙂

I do have a challenge for you, MS: Enhance the ‘instant on’ feature to be as fast and stable as the Wii U.

    • http://www.projectspark.com coip

“Wii U, on”. Nope, doesn’t work.

      Like

      • Axcalibur

Lol, honestly ‘xbox on’ only works once in a while – very flawed and inconsistant.

But being able to push the home button and my wii u menu being there is pretty awesome. Love to see that on my xbox one

Works nearly perfectly for me (90%). The only times it doesn’t is when there is a ton of background noise. Once on, though, the voice commands are nearly flawless for me (99% accurate), even if it’s loud in the room.

The quick start menu on the Wii U is incredibly fast and reliable.

      • http://www.projectspark.com coip

I don’t see how that’s any faster than “Xbox, on” coupled with the quick launch icons (i.e. recent games/apps hot list) on the home dashboard screen on Xbox One.

        Like

      • Radical Yoseph

I have used both, and it is definitely faster. It takes at most 15 seconds to have a game launched on Wii U with that menu. I am not trying to be negative about the Xbox, that is very quick too. Both are faster than the PS4, anyway.

      • http://www.projectspark.com coip

I’m not saying it’s not useful, I just don’t see how it’s faster than Xbox: I walk into the room and say “Xbox, on” and it instantly boots up itself and the TV. Then I say “Xbox, go to Killer Instinct” and it instantly boots up the game, all before I’ve even had a chance to sit down on the couch and even pick up a controller.

Oh, sorry I misread your previous comment. I agree, it is faster when using Kinect, and I meant without Kinect.

Any chance of being able to change the placement of the notification? I play Forza a lot with over 1,200 hours in Forza Horizon 2 and I spend a lot of my time painting and the bottom of the screen is a large part of painting and the notification covers this for a rather long time.

Putting it right at the top edge of the screen or in a corner would be brilliant for not only Forza but many other games in general.

How about having as much access to storage as on 360? According to a friend, you can’t just move save files to an external device. You have to have the game on said device and save ingame.

You can’t even see save files for a game that’s no longer installed. Wtf?

And seeing title update files was nice on 360.

Being able to see how much space the game DVR clips/screenshots take up would be good. And why are uploads only at 2-4mbps? I have, on average, 30mbps. Last time I uploaded something I tested my speed thru x1 and was at 89mbps upload, but still only uploading at 2-4mbps.

Get your s*** together, microsoft. Its 2015, not 1995.

    Like

    • TheHeraldOfDeath

That depends on the game, not MS. Nearly all games allow save copying without the game being installed. Thus far I’ve only one game do that and I think it was NG2. But a HDD transfer with the proprietary cable overrode and copied it anyway.
