Why should I pre-order? Is there any pre-order bonus? This game doesn’t come out until next month. It seems to me it would be wiser to take that money and invest it in a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds, and real estate?

No pre-order bonus, this company doesn’t try bum hug you. ( if you catch my drift )

Everyone will get the full complete game including the free 16 pieces of DLC. Doesn’t matter if you buy it from a shop or online or even used.

There’s a 10% pre-order discount. Currently £40.49 instead of £44.99 for the standard version. Expansion bundle is also cheaper.

Full complete game? I think not…

Expansion pass is for content which is out months after the full game. First content from that pass is in late October and the second piece is early 2016.

Everyone gets 16 dlc packages for free. You don’t have to pre-order and you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them etheir.

You’d already have the game loaded to play on day one. Other than that, not much.

But I don’t think your month long investment would make much (if any) profit and probably lose money due to brokerage fees.

Are you really buying an expansion pass for content which isn’t out till late October?

I can pay $81.41 now or wait and pay $90.52 later on… I know I’m going to play all of it so it’s not a big deal to me to spend the money now.

Nick nick nick… By October, you will be able to buy the game for $29.99, if not less. The expansion will indeed release at full price, but if you hold off buying the game until the first expansion comes out, you would save a huge amount of money

But by then I will have 5 other games I’ll be playing and I’ll never touch it. If I have too man games just sitting around I never get to them. :) Tomb Raider and Halo 5 to name a few, those will take up a lot of time haha.

This pre-order is actually cheaper then the PS4 pre-order.

    PS4 = £46.99

    Xbox one = £44.99 slashed down to £40,49. A whole £6 cheaper!

I can’t wait to get my hands on this game, the developers said it’s 200+ hours and I’m sure as hell going to be putting 200+ hours into it.

    • ambuckle

Well it probably should be cheaper, considering it’s not 1080p like the PS4 version. Also I doubt you’ll play for 200 hours, the main story is likely over in 20 and maybe you can get another 20-50 hours exploration of the world and questing (if you’re really into it) but then it will probably be stale because you’ve seen the whole world and there’s no story context and it will devolve into ‘go here kill that’ or fetch quests.

I put just over 110 hours into the recent Dragon age game, and I missed two areas and loads of side quests. I’m sure If I do everything I will easily be able to put in 200+ hours. Like the developer said, a speed run of the main story, skipping all cut scenes and using fast travel took someone 25 hours. So if I take the main story and play at my normal enjoyable speed it’s got to be at least 30+ hours. I enjoyed the side missions in Witcher 2 so wouldn’t see why I wouldn’t enjoy them in #3. I’m pretty sure adding everything I do in the game will add up to 200+ hours.

All along I planned on getting this game for my xbox one.. but I’ve recently bought the witcher 1 and 2 on pc and played through them and you can import your saves on there so I had to continue with that… plus I haven’t really had any games yet that can put my 4k Gsync monitor & gpus through its paces and I’m really excited to see how good it looks on pc. Pretty disappointing that they couldn’t hit 1080p with this game on xbox one & they did on ps4…

either way though playing this game in 60 fps is going to be so so sweeeeet

Yeah, the consoles are weak and the gulf with the PC is ever increasing, just watch what happens when DX12 gets out, it’s only going to grow larger.
MS needs new hardware, especially since the NX is coming, but the Xbox One not getting games at 1080p still comes down to developer laziness not willing to optimize their engines for split frame rendering over the 2 RAM pools and just going with the fastest 32MBs, which isn’t enough for deferred rendering but is for forward or forward+. It won’t happen though, not with the Xbox One not being in first place, at least not for third party games.
If the eSRAM was at 48MB, the Xbox One would have been 1080p at all times (truly at all times, even more than the PS4), but it would have taken more space on the die at the cost of the GPU.
At 20nm (or even 14nm, but I’d reserve that to counter whatever Sony does next and go with HBM instead of eSRAM) MS now has the potential to make the Xbox Two with those features, both a more powerful GPU and more eSRAM, keeping everything compatible with the Xbox One.

You can’t keep blaming the developers this gen’s hardware is just far too weak on both consoles.

        Like

      • TheHeraldOfDeath

To run everything with the options on PC yes, it definitely is too weak, you’re completely right and it’s something Sony fanboys never understood judging by their BS spewing all over the internet. They completely fell for the hype.
Watching Eurogamer’s Project CARS articles makes me laugh hard how disappointed they are seeing the PS4 fail as hard as it does and some of them finally understanding that the disparity between the two consoles is far less significant than the one between the consoles and the PC.
Achieving that 1080p framebuffer is definitely possible with the current graphical settings games use on the Xbox One but developers just completely ignore this possibility because it’s a b*tch to optimize. There’s definitely developer laziness and naturally, time/budget constraints at play that the Xbox One gets so many games at 900p. But like I already said, that will not change and it won’t with DX12 either, unless there’s a sudden shift and developers start doing everything it intends to do. You’ll only see that level of dedication for first party games. The Xbox One is a far more balanced system, just balanced for that 900p. The PS4 on the other hand looks impressive in raw numbers but has a few bottlenecks in its design like the weak CPU and the GPU not being able to be used at its full potential because of it and the memory not being able to sustain high enough rates.

Same here you just know the console versions are going to struggle with this game even at 30fps. A high res screen and PC hardware is the way to go with this title to do it justice.

Good luck trying to run it at 4K 60fps maxed out though.:)

Was and still really surprised to see this game’s download size at 25GB. That’s much appreciated though but got scared earlier on when I heard it will require 200 hours of gameplay to totally finish it….made me think the size is gonna be insanely huge but at 25GB, I think the devs did a good job of compressing lot of things.

Exactly. This might be the start of me going all digital as the digital price is finally the same price as the disc. Normally I have brought the disc as the digital copy, for some reason, cost $20+ more than the disc.

Why is the digital version of the game is always more expensive than a game on the disc dvd? For the game on a disc dvd gets extras (maps, instructions, book, etc.), I can put it on the shelf next to the console, resell etc. A digital version will not do it, even though it is more expensive.

From what I understand, the digital versions, since they are being sold by the company, cannot be lower than the MSRP, it’s a law to protect retailers from being undercut by the company that is producing it. The only way to avoid this would be if it were digital only, and then there would be no competing retail element.

The only way around this is through “sales” which MS seems to do a good job of, you just have to wait a bit if you want to save a few bucks. I for one have no problem with a game like this paying full retail and having it ready to go. I must say I’ve actually come a long ways in seeing the benefit of downloads only, but still feel if we take the retail segment away, it would only hurt the industry, and the last thing I want to see is another video game crash (love my “hobby” too much:-)
