Played 1 hour on PC, its amazing.
    The refined combat is awesome.
I do appreciate the new learning curve, W2 tries to dump everything on you.

It truly is, just a darn shame about the massively downgraded graphics because the consoles couldn’t keep up and show the graphics CDPR showed in 2013.

Is that all you care about, graphics? It still looks like an amazing game. be it on console or PC ultra settings.

No it’s not all I care about, like I said (or rather suggested) it truly is an awesome game, but the MASSIVE graphics downgrade because of the consoles is undeniable, even CDPR already admitted to it.
Graphics are a huge part of why people buy next gen consoles and when they fall short like this where the game doesn’t look much better than the Witcher 2 did, it’s a disappointment in that area and the maximum settings on PC don’t even make it look close to what they showed in 2013.

Who cares, play what you have in front of you. So sick of reading about the “graphics downgrade”… Who cares, does it make the game less fun? Nope. Also, it looks 200x better than the W2 did on it’s med settings lol. It’s not even close on high/ultra/4k, but nice try.

Less fun? Not necessarily. Less immersive? Definitely.
It looks much better than the Witcher 2 did on 360, which had a good port, not that much on PC. Nice try.

Ok. I just looked at them on a high end rig and there is a huge difference, but ya, my eyes must be bad. Less immersive, seriously? The game looks better than pretty much anything else out there at this moment so I really don’t see how this is destroying peoples enjoyment of the game.

Guess I have been gaming for around 30+ plus years and I could care less about a few pixels not being smoothed to perfection lol. But to each his own, sorry it’s not the game you had hoped for.

Guess what, so have I and I can see the difference clear as night and day.
Xeon X5690 with GTX 970 SLI here. This doesn’t look that great on consoles and on the PC it’s a far cry from what was shown in 2013 even if I can Ultra everything and run at 60+fps (which you can’t on consoles).
CDPR played a game with its community and it’s no wonder that their entire message board blew up because of this. Lies and deception shouldn’t be rewarded (for nobody in this industry).

I understand what you are saying and although the game does look good you are right it could have looked so much better.

I played it last night on PC Ultra at 1080p before playing it on Xbox One and whilst it looked good it certainly wasn’t that much better than the console version. Except for the frame rate of course.

I think that the frustration is coming from the fact that PC owners spend thousands on their rigs and expect games to push that hardware. The original Witcher 3 reveal looked as though it was going to do just that but sadly due to the constraints of developing for the consoles things changed drastically.

Like you said it is still a great game and looks good but it is a shame it never reached it’s original vision.

Exactly, look I’m not saying it’s ugly, not at all, but they’ve clearly shown builds that were running on PCs before and realized the consoles couldn’t reach that level of fidelity and decided to tone everything down because of it, for everyone.
Nobody would have flinched if the options were still available on the PC, but they aren’t anymore, just like Watch Dogs.
They’ve already admitted to everything I’m saying and put up a list of everything that was culled so I’m not lying about this.
There have been many like myself here saying that MS should have listened to Epic when they suggested 2.5+ TFLOPS for this gen and this is another result of not doing that, developers are cutting corners.

I would also like to echo the concerns of this generation’s console power. I’ve heard that this game basically maxes out the Xbox One, which is great, but it also raises concerns about the future of this gen. Maybe a new SKU with more power is a good idea, as long as backwards compatibility is present.

I will say this though, Direct X 12 may improve things. Phil Spencer said when asked on Twitter how beneficial DirectX 12 would be on the system, whether minor, moderate, or large, Spencer responded by saying:

“When you think about start of gen to end of gen teams learn a lot. DX12 will help as well, think PDZ to Halo 4.”

Slight downgrade in graphics or a better running game? Trust me, I’m not stupid to what you are saying, I used to be a high end pc snob for years (but have always owned and played all consoles as well). But people need to realize there is a graphics ceiling that has been hit.

Software is always slow to adopt hardware specs, but when they finally do catch up there is 4 new versions of video cards and drivers out there. It’s been like this for years and will always be like that. I stopped pc gaming years ago (other than an occasional bout with WoW) because what you spent on hardware never really makes it worth it because the games never look that much better (to me, it has degraded vs. consoles for years now).

That and my wrist kills me from using a mouse all day😦 I don’t think CDPR is trying to hurt fans at all, I think they just couldn’t get the game running the way they wanted to and instead of taking a huge internet beating over a chugging game (or god know what ever else), they chose to do that to keep the game moving along smoothly. Sadly internet beatings will happen regardless, the insta satisfaction people have adopted has cluttered all common sense.

Who knows, but I just don’t care that much for graphics like I once did. Of course I love good looking games, but I don’t mind playing a slightly downgraded version these days as I will still have the same amount of fun with it. That and I wouldn’t have spent a ton on a gaming rig to be p’d off all the time because something doesn’t look a certain way. It just got old to me. But I do have a beast of a PC at work lol,

Sorry if I seemed “mean”, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just sick of looking around and constantly seeing the griping going on about the game. It looks great and plays just fine. Be happy with what you have:)

I didn’t take offense, don’t worry😉 , I’ve seen you posting here for a long time (I’m not trying to sound mean either).

The difference with The Witcher 3 however isn’t slight, you can clearly look all the comparisons up on sites like DSOG (because I can’t post pictures here and honestly don’t want to mess up MN’s layout either).

Look I’ll be honest, consoles, however well they sell now, will be in trouble if they don’t find a way bridge this gap, it’s why a couple of us have been suggesting to start tiering a la Steambox. This year is the massive tech shift with new 14nm processes and HBM memory and the performance gap between the consoles and the PC is going to eclipse the last gen to current gen transition in under 2 years after their release.
I don’t want to sound like a PC snob either, because I game on both the PC and consoles (which is why I’m still here, Xbox One is my primary console), but the reality speaks for itself and it sucks to admit to it.

Oh I agree and that’s what I said above (to a degree). I remember buying every new video card that came out and being impressed at ALL of the advancements they had. Then 5 months after you bought that card, no new games really took advantage of it at all. Then when they announced a game that will use said features… Hey look, the next new video card is coming out with all of these new NEW features…

It just never ends. They need to skip a few release cycles and just build everything into one card giving the game devs time to catch up. Or something along those lines anyways. But then again, they would lose money not pumping a new card out every handful of months, so there’s that.

I agree that they need to close the gap and I think this current gen just solidifies what they HAVE to do for the next gen systems. But the problem is, is that you can only get so much for what you pay. If the next gen systems launch at 500-600 then it should be a decent system, but at that point are you just better off getting a PC for a little more?

I guess it comes down to the deals they make with the manu’s that will have to be much better in the future. I don’t mind gaming on consoles even when they start to age because having a closed system is so much better for the devs imo. Having 92000000000000 different PC configs out there and hoping everything works has to really s,u,ck lol.

I hope this gen so far has been a learning period, I really do. Speaking of the Steam OS, I actually got one of those Alienware Alpha systems (got it cheap because someone owed me a few favors lol) and it works great with an XBO controller running it. It’s sweet little system, but of course is limited to it’s video card. However, it pumps out some pretty good grachics for what it is.

At full price I would never have bothered, but I had a spare 16gb of ram and a 480gb ssd from a dead pc laying around and tossed it in there. I’m actually impressed at how well that Steam OS works. For me though, I’m only using it for older games that I missed (like kingdoms of almualar. sp?) and for games that I pick up on sale for $2-20:)

That’s exactly why tiering is a great option for MS to do. They’re actually the ONLY ones that can do it the way it should be done, even better and more controlled than Steambox with all kinds of cross platform possibilities and yet everything completely compatible.
This would give people options on how much they want to spend. If a new tier launches everyone can just choose to go with the much cheaper model with at least another 3 years of support and the same games at lower settings or the new more expensive model with another 6 years of support.
With everything being so alike to the PC development wise for the MS platform under Windows 10, it would make so much sense to do it, each model would still have the 6 year lifecycle after which they go into extended support where indies can do whatever they want to launch on it.
For developers familiar with MS’ tools the scalability wouldn’t be much of a problem either. Still keeping up with the tech, just in steady increments instead of all kinds of configurations like on the PC.

Yah that would make sense. Maybe like 2-3 Tiers to chose from. All they would have to do differently is just build the game on the highest settings of the top model and just have it scale from best to better to good.

That way the OS / Hardware is still controlled and the same for everyone sold (as it is on current consoles). I think going forward it’s almost going to have to be something along these lines.

I agree that MS is the one to do it as well. Like them or not, their software is great (not to mention how fast they can add to and fix things these days) and could easily make something like this happen.

Very interesting to think about and I wonder if that is something that they have and or are considering for the next system down the road. I’m happy with my XBO, though I wish they would have upped the video card a bit, but I love the system and enjoy it.

I think they could do well with a $200 / 400 / 600 type system right off the bat. Oh, and have swapable HD’s this time around! If anyone can pull it off, it will be MS no doubt.

PC gamers and console gamers are 2 very different market who each have different needs than the other .

A PC gamer may want top of the line hardware with the best cpu, ram, video card , tweaked drivers , etc . The console gamer could care less. The console gamer wants a gaming appliance that they can just turn on and play games with. They don’t care that the console doesn’t have the best performance hardware. They like that it is easy to use and cheap. That’s it.

If you ask them to upgrade drivers , install a new video card, select the memory, install the OS, etc…they will leave and go find a console to play on.

Yes, I’m generalizing here but I’m talking about the majority . 8 year old Timmy wants to press the connect button on his controller and start play little big planet. He doesn’t want to log into the active directory domain and then navigate menus with a mouse and keyboard to play his game .
