It is working for some people, it seems to vary on a few factors, some people have no problems… Other people like myself are still incapable of playing Multiplayer.

Console games are ironically supposed to be more convenient than PC games too, this one game has proven that premise is completely false, especially when it takes me TWENTY hours to install and update the game if a patch botches my install. GRR.

That’s the thing that has irked me most about anti-Kinect trolls: 1. most of them have never even used it, 2. those who did actually try it never took the (very little) time necessary to learn how to use it. It’s akin to riding a bike for the first time, falling off and declaring that “bicycles don’t work; I’m walking”. We know bikes work; they were very well, actually. So does Kinect. We have video evidence of this. If someone can’t get Kinect to work right, that says everything about them and nothing about Kinect.
What bugs me the most, though, is that these anti-Kinect trolls are hurting the future of Kinect development. Why they are so threatened by other people enjoying different types of games is beyond me, but I have no respect for them.

it’s not about how to use it or whether it works or not…
it’s plain useless for people like me (respecting your opinion, I included “me” without saying it’s utterly useless in general)

the only good thing about it (IMO) is Dance Central and Xbox Fitness (maybe Fruit Ninja2). really, where are all the other games??
I don’t need it to browse my console, even using voice commands.. I like it for what it can do best – casual and fun games for everyone – but it has none (a few, I know, that’s my rant)!

I wish it was compatible with the 360 kinect games… beach volleyball was the best in Sports… those baseball arcade games… even Dragon’s lair was fun to replay it again with kinect…

devs aren’t looking forward to make playable games for kinect 2, unfortunately…

      • http://www.projectspark.com coip

You didn’t explain why it is “plain useless” to you. You merely said it was. Please explain.
Regarding that argument, though, lots of consumer products are sold with things that parts of the consumer base won’t use. Case in point: the disc drive in the Xbox One. I’ve never used it and never will, but I don’t go around trolling Xbox One articles telling people how “the disc drive sucks”. That’s what anti-Kinect nitwits do, though.
Where are the other games? Most of them aren’t being made BECAUSE of the vocal group of anti-Kinect trolls online who have done nothing but bash the peripheral ever since it was invented (most of them without ever even using it).
That said, there have been some great Kinect games released lately. You mentioned Fruit Ninja Kinect 2 and Dance Central Spotlight and Xbox Fitness, but I’d also add Fantasia: Music Evolved, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Just Dance 2015 as excellent Kinect 2 games. There have also been some okay games too (Slice Zombies, Shape Up, Blue Estate, Boom Ball Kinect, Rabbids Invasion, etc.).

Yes, Microsoft would’ve been smart to cherry pick a few of the better Kinect 1 games from Xbox 360 and bring them to Kinect 2 on Xbox One (in fact, they should’ve done this for launch), particularly the superb game Child of Eden, which might be the best Kinect game ever (it’s either that or Fantasia).

either you are a blind fanboy or relative to one of the Kinect engineers (maybe you are one of its creators?! because you sound so obnoxiously mad at people that dislike Kinect…)

it is useless because it just is… I don’t need voice commands, I don’t want to navigate waving my hands and having most of the gestures captured wrongly, I don’t even have it plugged in…

it was cool for Fitness and Dance Central (Just Dance is innacurate and not a serious dancing game, more of a party game like Rabbids Invasion, Boom Ball etc), the x360 sports game were so much more fun than this lame Rivals… but then again… it was cool for a few days, then my kinect is just eating dust.
D4 was so much more fluid using the controller (I actually tried with kinect, it was just clunky). even if you like those games you mentioned (only that fighting game that we should not speak about it because we all know how bad it is) I doubt you play them all day long and basically nothing else.

at least my optical drive is used to play some blu-rays every now and then, not totally useless. but then again, I’m not either an inventor of the technology or know anyone close to it to defend it.
Devs don’t develop great games for kinect simply because they too know how bad it is as a game peripheral… NOT because anti-kinect “trolls”, that’s not even an excuse.

“I don’t even have it plugged in”
Ah, it all makes sense now. You’re one of the anti-Kinect trolls who didn’t even bother putting in the time necessary to learning how it works. This is more evident in this claim: “D4 was so much more fluid using the controller (I actually tried with kinect, it was just clunky).” That’s not the case at all. It’s better with Kinect than with a controller. The Kinect controls make it more immersive and they’re highly accurate–we have video evidence online of this. That they were not accurate for you is merely a reflection of your own incompetencies or lack of training, not Kinect’s.

I never said I “only” play Kinect games. I like variety. I play all games.

“at least my optical drive is used to play some blu-rays every now and then, not totally useless”.
Mine is totally useless. I don’t even know how if it works, as I’ve never used it. The difference between me and anti-Kinect trolls who have never used Kinect, though, is that I don’t come to Xbox articles just to moronically call the disc drive in Xbox One stupid and worthless and mock people who use it.

“Devs don’t develop great games for kinect simply because they too know how bad it is as a game peripheral… NOT because anti-kinect ‘trolls’, that’s not even an excuse”.
You’re naive if you don’t think that the anti-Kinect filth that game jouranlists and their readers have vomited out for years hasn’t had a negative impact on Kinect development.

No, he didn’t clearly say why it wasn’t of use to him, and your uninformed comment didn’t shed any more light on the matter. This is just another example of phony gamers criticizing Kinect for no logical reason. I don’t tolerate such nonsense, especially when it hinders Kinect development, which subsequently hurts minority gamers.

        Like

      • Austacker

That’s honestly not the case. I bought my Xbox one day one which came bundled with Kinect.

It was forced upon the Xbox community, never optional. But because of that, the sales backlash meant Microsoft kicked into gear a plan to remove it’s requirement, after which support was largely dropped by the development community.

Now if you’re like me and OUTSIDE the US, Kinect support is even less. We waited literally a year for the console to respond to ‘Xbox on’ and even then, it was pretty hit and miss.

Right now we have a console component that’s largely not supported by developers at large anymore, is quite hit and miss on it’s functionality and the core system updates mean you can often perform many functions you once needed Kinect for simply, quickly and above all reliably.

People who dislike the technology and express such are not trolls, that would imply there’s no justification for their critique which is simply not true. If you step back and weigh up the pros and cons on Kinect, you would be ignorant not to see the flaws and even more ignorant if you dismiss those that do. To then not have respect for their views because they see what you don’t is an even worse failing.

        Like

      • TallinHarper

Yes, you’ve just got to love the wonderfully nuanced critique to be found in “kinect? are you idiot?” There’s just so much to unravel within this short but insightful look into why someone would ever want a kinect, and the mental capabilities of such a person. That someone could call them a troll is beyond me. Obviously no trolling going on here.

No body forced anything on you. You chose to purchase it. That’s like me saying that car radios are bullshit because I don’t use car radios but Ford forced me to buy a car with a radio in it. No, they didn’t. They sold a car with a radio in it and I bought it. Same goes with the disc drive in Xbox One. I’ve never used it and never will, but I’m not parading around the Internet calling optical disc drives mean names.
That said, I’m not excusing Microsoft at all for not fleshing out Kinect’s features as much as they should’ve been when they launched in various countries. It’s clear the Xbox One launched a year before it was ready–but, to be fair to Microsoft, one huge reason for the lack of features being ready is because they had to spend the all of their time before launch stripping out features that comprised the original vision, in response to the vocal minority of ignoramuses who freaked out after E3 2013.
My point stills stands: most of the people who bash Kinect online have never even tried it (most even admit to this: “I never even plugged in my Kinect, because it’s stupid”–no, son, you’re stupid for not even ever trying it, is what I say to them), and those who did, did not bother to learn how to use it. I’m not even talking about other territories where Kinect’s features weren’t fully fleshed out. I’m talking specifically about the USA where they were fleshed out but people still didn’t bother doing the gesture or voice tutorials necessary to learn how to use Kinect. Instead, they vomit out a few (usually non-existent) voice commands, it expectedly doesn’t work, and they dismiss it entirely. I do not respect these people at all; in fact, I find them to be anathema and counter to everything I want out of my Xbox entertainment experience.

Those people I’m talking about, which I delineated above, they’re trolls. You’re not a troll; I’m not talking about the tiny minority of people like you who actually tried Kinect and gave it a fair shot (assuming that you did), particularly those in countries where its features weren’t fleshed out.

It’s Kinect, not kinetic. The Kinect is much more than just a microphone: it’s an HD camera with infrared technology and time-of-flight, that can monitor heart beats and detect faces, full body movement of up to 6 people at a time, that can blast on your Xbox, TV, and set-top box.
