My PC installs, updates and patches everything automatically at a time that I have designated, it doesn’t “check” for patches every-time I launch a game.

My PC game library is twice the size of the entire Xbox One games library currently released/announced, I can assure you, I rarely see my PC games “updating”.

Halo: MCC took me 20 hours to install and patch, only for a future patch to botch my install forcing me to spend yet another 20 hours patching and installing.
I have never spent that long waiting on a PC game, ever.

I have spent whole nights and days waiting for patches and updates and installs on PC games lol. There really isnt any difference in how the patching and updates work from PC to XB1 it either is a large update or its not PC or Console has no bearing on that,

      • Pemalite

Remember a time when that wasn’t a problem? Consoles never needed updates? Yeah. That is something you are defending, the need for updates.

Consoles are not always on like a PC, due to their limited usability, hardware is inferior resulting in slow install, download, decompression times.

I do not wish to update everything when I want to game for 15 mins, it sucks.

A PC gamer complaining about the Xbox One having patches and updates, Now that is Irony. You see how that works now?

Do you even own an Xbox One. You would know the primary power setting is basically Always-On and auto-update so you do not have to update every time you play a game. Strangely enough people complained about the Xbox One having this as the default and said the power-saver mode should be default and that turns auto-update off. With Energy saver on your console wont update till you turn it on and execute a function. And overall the Xbox Ones always-on uses less power than a gaming PC being always-on.

Games and developers are the reason patches exist on all platforms, Case and Point The Witcher 3 has had far more patches on PC and has another one coming than on either the PS4 or XB1. So Pc gamers have spent more time downloading patches for that game than any console player. And that isnt an oddity. PC games need more patches because the ecosystem is wild and everyone’s PC’s are different.

The sheer amount of bugs and issues that can arise is staggering in comparison to the closed system of the console. So nope as a PC gamer i can honestly say PC players spend more time waiting for patches and updates to download and install than their console brethren when it comes to the same titles.

I feel your pain! I spent two days on my rural broadband pre-downloading Halo the MCC, I then had to patch it with another 20GB+ DL before I could play it. I went over my data limit and it cost me a fortune. A few days later I plugged a keyboard into my console and the XBoxOne crashed and I had to factory restore. I still haven’t re-downloaded MCC yet, as I could never get it to work properly online, the biggest waste on money ever on a game. I am normally soo careful choosing a game due to limited funds.
Oh look, BREAKING NEWS, Xbox have just emailed me that the Halo 3 ODST campaign is now available for download for free. I’m almost tempted to download the whole thing again just to see ODST in all it’s beauty, but, TBH, I wasn’t that fond of ODST on the 360 anyway.

Yeah i dont disagree that the MCC updates and patches were ridiculous as was Dead Rising 3. They had to basically rewrite that whole game so your patch was near the size of the whole game lol. I was like oh man i wouldnt have gotten this if i had known id have to download like 30 GB’s. Luckily most of the patches are at max usually half a GB anymore. Unless your looking at DLC or huge fixes.

Nice games, but I liked more when the games were one arcade and one GonD. Besides, this structure of two GonD per month is killing my HDD.

Not really, since you don’t need to play every game on every month. What I do is, play one game, complete it, delete it and start the new one.

So I’ve been reading these comments, an so far I’m come to the conclusion that there are two types of people. Those who complain about free games and are complaining just for the sake of complaining, then there are those who don’t know anything at all, probably been spending too much time in the IGN comments section.

How come a much less profitable company like Sony can afford to give two DIFFERENT games a month for PSPlus on ps4 but a cash rich company like Microsoft can only give one new game a month for GwG Xbox one owners?

Good point. Sony is talking bankruptcy and MS isn’t …Hmmmm who’s doing it right?

  • Tyler Sally

So…. not to play Devil’s advocate here or anything but maybe they won’t give away an M rated game? Plenty of games in the launch window could go GwG but they may not want to give away a 17+ game since they have so few offerings every month and cut out a portion of their userbase (conceptually, I know kids under 17 get the games but probably not from the Games Store).

    Like

    • Some guy

That make sense, since they’re only giving one game away it might as well be a game everyone can enjoy.(or hate)

      Like

    • Professor Oak

It’s because they could break some laws giving free M rated games to those under 17 years of age. Same rules apply for Digital and Physical games, a parent or guardian must give consent to let their kid purchase an M rated game.

I sure wish those of us who have actually gone out and spent an extra $400 to upgrade to the Xbox One would be rewarded like the folks who are still clinging to the 360.

I hate to sound fickle, complaining about a free game, but the dip in quality for Games With Gold going from 360 to One is astronomical. Seriously, when I still had my 360, I felt like I was really getting something for my Gold Membership whenever the new freebies came out. Not only were the games ten times better, but they were being released twice as often! So instead of being excited for a new game twice a month, now that I’ve spent the money for a brand new system AND a year of Live Gold, I get my hopes up all month for something decent (even a re-release of a good 360 game would be great) only to be completely let down by another garbage release, while the last generation gets rewarded with stuff like Dishonored, Hitman, and Halo? I truly just do not understand.

Microsoft, I hope you’re hearing us. A free game is a free game, yes, but the huge gap in quality (not to mention that 360 gets two good titles for free, while the One gets a single table scrap) is a real slap in the face to the owners of your current generation system.

Like I said, it doesn’t have to be new. I’d be more than happy to get an Xbox 360 re-release once a month. Just, if you’re going to give away free games, you might as well give us something we can actually play.

Your customers would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks for (hopefully) hearing me out.

Why don’t you have both consoles and take advantage of having 3 new free games every month? Then you would really feel like you were getting your moneys worth.

It’s simple, the next gen consoles has no games.
      Xbone get a kickstarter game, Ps4 get a re-release and a demo.
You’d think people would consider such thing before dumping 400$ on something.

We are being rewarded. With GWG. I have enjoyed some of them. On 360 I am getting “better” games. But those games are older games every time really. And are generally games I already have. I just take the digital copy for my account. And I am sure that when there are some older (think couple of years 2+ but probably closer to 3) we will see some of them for AAA or whatever games for free. Might occasionally see a newer (think 1.5 to 2 years old) game (s) from a popular series or 2 given during holidays and special events but outside of that not going to happen.

Take Dishonored, Hitman, Halo, and other bigger games the 360 gets and compare the age of the game when they get them. Now, take Halo: MCC or Unity or some such game and you might see them around the same time in terms of time to GWG from original release. The thing with me on a lot of these is that I have already purchased by they time they go free. But I am not going to complain like a friend of mine. Literally, this friend says things like:

“That game is old. Everybody who wanted it has it.”

“Wish they would give out “insert game he does not have” or something instead of “insert popular game that is released” that I already have.” (dishonored was one such game for this person, as was plenty of others)

Good selection of games this month. Was considering picking up JC2 just the other day. Thief was free on PS+ a few months ago so GwG is behind the curve on that one but it’s still a great free title.

But seriously what is up with that pool game for the third straight month? I enjoyed it for a night and got VERY bored with it.

  • Professor Oak

For those wondering about the pool game, Microsoft stated they will bring at least ONE NEW FREE GAME to the table every month for the Xbox One. They are just carrying over one of the free games.

You buy Gold for the online service not free games, your lucky to get anything. If you don’t like it stop being so cheap and go buy the AAA titles for XB1 rather that cry like little girls over the free ones.

Yeah, the GWG are just bonus. Same with any other thing like this. And I have actually received some games on the One that I like that I would not have purchased. And one that I was going to at some point but had not yet for the One. And for the most part by the time they add these AAA games to the GWG on 360 I have them if I wanted them and have had all of them at some point if I remember correctly. That is not a complaint either. The fact is they are older games that have been around for a while.

The 80150017 error message is because you’re trying to download a game that is region locked. It happens when you create a US account but live in a different country.
I know because I’m from Argentina but I have a US account, because the marketplace is much bigger, for example, to buy Forza 4 DLCs, or games like Pinball Arcade.
You should try to find a list of region locked games.
