Kinda crappy for the people who purchased before Dec 19th and didn’t play cause it was a Christmas present….Dare you to tell me it wasn’t broken on Dec 25th….

They should just give this for free to anyone who has the MCC.

The only problem with that is that the free month of LIVE, the special emblem, and a free copy of ODST were an apology to those who purchased the game at launch when the multiplayer wasn’t even partially working. If they gave the freebies away to everyone, many would take it as another slap in the face.

And it wasn’t even partially working on Dec 25th when I played it first……THAT is a Slap in the face and the kick to the nuts is ignoring a significant amount of the player base who for whatever reason decided to either wait till it was fixed or chose to get a kid a Xmas present….I purchased it WITH proof of purchase on Dec 10th…..So who’s getting slapped harder here? I miss the free month (Meh not to worried)… I could care less about emblems…Now ODST something that would actually interest me now cost me $4.99 when it should be free for the entire community regardless of when purchased bec they rushed the game….My slap to the face is harder…And YES I feel entitled to some compensation as a consumer who bought a broken product

Your are being a bit overdramatic. Before Christmas, 343i rolled out the limited playlist rotation and there were very few problems for players that stayed within it. My son and I played MCC throughout his holiday vacation and didn’t run into any memorable delays after the limited playlist was in effect. It was nothing like what we experienced when we brought home our day one purchase (which wasn’t made better by the fact that we also purchased Unity as well).

Over a month after the game’s release, what you were entitled to at that point was a refund from the retailer if you felt the game was “broken” enough to warrant compensation. It was being reported all over that the multiplayer was not working as it was expected to at that point. Bonnie Ross had already issued the statement about 343i offering the free ODST prior to the cutoff date even. So the second that you handed that game to your child on Christmas, all the information about what you would and would not receive was available to you. You accepted that then, so why is it different now?

Didn’t matter then to me… Doesn’t matter to me now… It’s hitting the trade fodder pile and I’m done with it… Was holding on to it to see if they were gonna come through but like their broken game they dropped the ball… I was already a halo hater and now they’ve made another cause the kids given up on them… Sad really… Now as for being over dramatic? Stop it, I’m a consumer who decided to buy a broken piece of junk, lesson learned for me and the next 343 game that I even think about purchasing will be done LONG after its released

If it didn’t matter to you then nor now, then why are you on a blog complaining that you feel entitled to it? You were holding on to the game to see if they were going to “come through?” 343 Industries didn’t drop any ball on their promise, instead they came through in spades. From what I am reading, everyone that was told they would get ODST for free (those who played it between the launch and Dec 19) is getting ODST for free.

But you are claiming to be a “Halo hater” (but still a hater that will consider buying another 343 game, just “long after it is released”) and MCC is going to be traded in (I doubt anyone cares at all) and because your child isn’t getting something he was never entitled to he will be a “Halo hater” too… I am sorry man, but not getting ODST for free seems to be the VERY LEAST of your problems.

Alas, you are right about one thing, you aren’t just being overdramatic. You are being querulous, spoiled and overdramatic. The bottomline is simple. 343 made some huge mistakes. They did their best to fix it. Those who were affected the most were offered a token of apology and appreciation. 343 was very public about who would and would not be receiving ODST (etc). You knew (or should have known) that you were not eligible, and no amount of crying/complaining/moaning/threatening is going to make it so that you are.

But seriously with all of the pseudo-hostility aside, if you aren’t happy with the game and want to trade it in because you aren’t happy about not getting ODST for free, that is your business and more power to you, but 343 honestly didn’t do you wrong.

Who’s being an ego maniac here? Me who has an opinion about something or you who has made an entire assumption based on text on the internet? …..Might want to backtrack a bit now

No son… you backtrack. You were the one that came on here whining like a child expecting to get things that you were never entitled to. You even had your little tantrum in front of everyone. You made the comments about your kid and how he will be hating an entire game franchise because they won’t give him free content. If he acts the way you do then the money spent on the game would be better served in a counselling session so that your kid doesn’t grow up with his hand out thinking everyone should be putting something in it for him. Who said anything about being an egomaniac? Are you sure you want to bring that up after all the whining and the tantrum? Especially after trying to tell anyone what you will accept in their choice of speech? I said there was a lot of egocentrism. I guess you also feel entitled to free education as well? Go put your hand out and whine to someone else.

Egocentric is having difficulty understanding different view points, well buddy you’re the problem there cause I’ve interacted with plenty on the Internet and I’m not the one recommending counseling over video game purchases (Elitist attitude much?)…. Agreed.
They should make ODST free for all owners of the Master Chief Collection.

I bought the game on launch, I would be equally annoyed if I bought the game months later and it was still not functional. (Ironically, the multiplayer still doesn’t work for me! It has been over 6 months!)

Then they should also release the multiplayer component of the game so it is FREE for all Xbox One users, part of the problem with matchmaking is population, or lack there-of, making that part of the game free for all would alleviate that problem completely.

One thing is for sure though, I learned my lesson, I will not be pre-ordering Halo ever again… And I have preordered every game since Halo: CE on the original Xbox.

I have a better one for them, Tell me it wasn’t broken before march 2015. I personally could live with not getting the compensation if they actually had the game working (even a little bit) by december 19th, but they didn’t. I got this game december 26th and spent the same half a year as those who got it december 19th completely unable to play it but they get odst free but i don’t. Halo 1 is what got me to get the original xbox, halo 3 is what got me to get the xbox 360 and the mcc is what got me to get xbox one. I seriously regret blowing my money on december 26th getting an xbox one and this game and a year of xbox live. I got my xbox FOR this game and was completely unable to play it, i deserve the compensation just as much as those who played a week prior. Wow they had to endure the pain of half a year of being unable to play this game an entire week longer than me, they get compensated for it and i get told to piss off despite paying the exact same for the game as they did.

Last time i blindly buy a game expecting it to work and last time i buy a 343 game. Used to love the Halo franchise, it was the reason i bought all the xbox consoles and the reason i didn’t play games exclusively on pc, i would always come back to xbox when a new halo came out.

I agree. It makes me miss the days of gaming when I was young, devs had one shot to make it work correctly because there were no patches. Hopefully the trend of compensating customers when there is a huge botch with product they were going to market continues. Not so that we get more free stuff, but so that devs and Pubs take a step back to make sure everything is working as it should before launch and potentially risking future revenue outlets.

Any chance you’ll be doing the same for Reach? (Not free of course but for 4.99 or so). That’d be great to have all the Halos in one place. I mean it can’t be that big an effort to do so because it’s not like it’s a complete remaster, it’s just rendering at a better resolution and framerate…

    Like

    • chex_mix

Nothing is a small effort with these guys unfrotunately. Also, ODST is based on the Halo 3 engine which has already been up-scaled, and converted to work with Halo: MCC. Reach is completely new game, engine, campaign and multiplayer wise. I’m not a games developer so I can’t say or sure but I highly doubt it’s as simple as just rendering a better resolution and framerate. A lot of other things have to happen behind the scenes to make every aspect of the game work.

The free ODST isn’t for people that just purchased MMC before Dec 19, it is for people who could not play multiplayer at all before Dec 19, which is when they got a limited (but for the most part working) hopper up and active. The premise they have being, even if you bought the game on day one but waited to give it as a Christmas present you nor the recipient were effected in the same way those who tried playing it day one were.

When I played MCC after I got it this holiday it was mostly working. The only thing I remember not working for me was getting to play on some of the Playlists. Other then that it wasn’t like anything else that was happening to other people that played the game before me. And only $4.99 for a remake of an entire game? That’s great! They where smart to not and try to sale it for $19.99 because they would have pissed people off. And $4.99 is the lowest price that MS will sale a game for that is not on sale or is a big game.

    Like

    • chex_mix

While I still think $4.99 is a good price for a remastered 1080p/60fps campaign it isn’t technically the full game. It’s missing probably my favorite part of Halo 3 ODST which was the Firefight mode. That is separate from the campaign but we didn’t get it included with the Halo 3 multiplayer portion of Halo: MCC so it’s kinda just left out in the cold. At least we have Spartan Ops I suppose which is probably the closest thing we will get to Firefight at this point, which still isn’t really close.

Buggy games are the hallmark of this console generation. If you think that’s acceptable that’s your opinion. I don’t think it should be, and a game that made such grand claims about what it could do, and then couldn’t deliver should be held accountable where it hurts, their bottom line.

LOL My phone autocorrects everything and it seems to hate the words your and you’re. You don’t even want to know what it does to the word tips. I guess it got me again since I was playing around and didn’t read over the comment before I hit the post button. I figured a spellchecker is what got Metal when he capped MORAN since that is a proper acronym.

My phone always gets me too. I’d rather look like an idiot that can’t spell compared to some of the stuff that auto correct has made me message to people.

SP was fine, it was just the matchmaking that had the major issues. They even gave a date saying that if you had played the game by “X” time you would receive this for free. You had ample time to buy the game (even at a discount).

But now you will cry over $5? Sure, why not I guess. I don’t remember any “promises” being made, other than they have all of the games and their MP modes there, that was it.

While I agree games shouldn’t be rushed out (which 99.8% of them are on every games platform) it happens, and has been happening for the past decade. It’s an oddity when you buy a game at launch and everything works fine these days…

Best off to not complain about it because it won’t get better anytime soon, so get used to it or move on.

Not cancelled because of bugs with the game. Cancelled due to issues with Party Chat in general.

And the party chat seems to be an issue on MS’ end, not the game’s.

I’d guess it probably was going to be free to all at E3 with the time of the release, the £3.99 was probably added to appease the users with early issues.

They should have given the full compensation to everyone that played before that March update (I think it was the 2nd).

They had a hopper that was running before Xmas and have continually added to it. You are crying about nothing.

The campaigns always ran great. The only problem MCC had was the matchmaking.

I’ve had no issue with campaigns and I have played all of 1 and 4 and half of 2 and 3. I thought the campaign ran really well. It’s cool to be able to go back and forth between old and new graphics with the press of the hamburger to see what has changed.

As I heard! The campaigns already run smoothly from the release! So you can go grab it!

Make you a deal – put MCC on for cheap – maybe $30-40 and I’ll buy the ODST expansion. Thanks! :)

You can get MMC on Amazon for $27.10. Most major retailers will even price match games sold by Amazon so you wouldn’t even have to wait for it to be shipped.

I mayb be wrong but after the 19th of December wasn’t this game on sale for like 39.99 for awhile? So all those people who are complaining about not getting ODST for free, you got the game cheaper and then what it cost those who are day 1 users even if you have to shell out five dollars for ODST.

A few weeks after the reviews were out and people were finding out that the game was bugged out instead of the servers being overloaded the retail price dropped like a rock.

I thought so, wasn’t there even some kind of special if people bought it knowing the problems?

People will complain, even when they are 100% at fault lol. Best to walk on by them and continue with your day. Yes, people had a TON of opportunities to buy the game at a cheaper price before the cut off date.

That I am not sure about. There may have been since 343 was posting about making things right for those who purchased it in the first month. I remember Amazon was almost giving it away and Target had it in a sale where you got it free when you bought 2 other games.

Major Nelson, thanks for the tip on how to launch H3:ODST. I couldn’t find it after I downloaded it. But is anyone else having issues launching the Halo Channel? I launch it, but all I get is a black screen. Nothing happens.
